Catching up, just saw this. Great! I almost want to remove the preference, just have it on all the time, unless there are objections.. Current unix-4.0.3.image and 3.9 sources

The current Squeak unix image version 4.0.3 dated 13 April 2010 looks for Squeak 3.9 sources on startup; there's a suspicious string in the image, "SqueakV39". If that's edited to SqueakV40 the image accepts the current 4.0 sources file. Whether this is an actual fix or a palliative I've no idea. Will

BlockClosure asContext losing bound variable?

I am getting a walkback on this code, with a valid vat: EventualProcess class>>#newOnVat: vat ^ super new suspendedContext: [ vat processSends. Processor terminateActive] asContext; priority: Processor userSchedulingPriority; eventualName: 'vat thread'; vat: vat; yourself once it has been resumed. The exception is UndefinedObject(Object)>>doesNotUnderstand: #processSends. Somehow the vat variable inside the Closure/MethodContext has become nil. Anyone know about this stuff? Many thanks, Rob

http://lesscode.co.nz/interface This is an iPhone app that lets one use a GUI to build a prototype iPhone app right on the phone. Exports to Xcode. Noticed this on the "featured apps" list, which is particularly interesting: it's a featured app, which means the folks at the app store not only approve, but think it's cool. This is thus far the closest thing I've seen to an on-device development environment on the app store. It's interesting in that it looks a lot like an omni-app, except to share what you've made, you have to go through the app store, which means Apple has it's cake and eats it too. Obviously what this does is spit out application templates, ala Interface Builder. So they're "mockups," not actual apps. Yuck:) I wrote the list because I think we might be able to learn something about Apple's comfort levels with certain approaches from this app. If an omni app is okay as long as it can't load code over the Internet, for example, I could see a (somewhat crippled) Etoys shipping. Kids might be able to make apps, export them, and their teachers might be able to submit them to the app store. It sucks, but it's a place to start. I have no idea whether or not what makes this app "okay" is that it exports to Xcode/Obj-C. More likely, it only let's the user describe interface, excluding logic. In that case, maybe there isn't much that we can learn about Apple from it. In any event, I thought I'd share.

Hi all. I have another version of Squeak dll. It is base on Squeak4.0. A main.exe program call Squeak.dll to initialize. And later call Squeak.dll to process Smalltalk expression, and Squeak.dll will return a object pointer to be store with main.exe. main.exe can later use the pointer for another call to Squeak.dll. There are four types of call to Squeak.dll: 1. Smalltalk expression. eg, perform1("Object new") 2. Smalltalk expression with receiver. eg, perform2(anObj, "move") 3. Smalltalk expression with receiver and an argument. eg, perform3(anObj, "moveTo:", anObj2) 4.
