I've currently *ahem* negatively affected the efficacy of the SqueakTrunk and ReleaseSqueakTrunk builds. I'm hoping some kind soul will quickly reply to my earlier mail about cleanup, telling me what very important step I've foolishly left out: that ought to fix the problem. (And I'll turn it into a SmalltalkImage method that we can repeatedly use.) Otherwise, on a more positive note, I've * reimplemented the entire build process in Ruby (a far more sane language than shell), * made SqueakTrunk builds off a 4.5 image, drastically reducing the build time, * broken SqueakTrunkPerformance out as a separate job, with the aim of making debugging the current problem easier, * will make ReleaseSqueakTrunk use Ruby (once we're done with the current issue), and will maintain the illusion that nothing has changed, while SqueakTrunk's artifact continues to shrink. Lastly, ExternalPackages builds a base image off a fully updated 4.5 image and runs, each in a clean image, the test suites (where present) of AndreasSystemProfiler, Control, FFI, Fuel, Nebraska, Nutcracker, OSProcess, Quaternion, Phexample, RoelTyper, SqueakCheck, Universes, WebClient, XML-Parser, Xtreams and Zippers. And other jobs do the same with 4.3 and 4.4. (I realise some of the packages will be unfamiliar: some are from Pharo, and some are libraries I've released and written about elsewhere, but talking about them here would be off-topic.) frank

I moved these two new tests from Inbox to Trunk. One test fails on recent trunk images. I do not know if this is a bug or a feature, but I cannot explain the regression so I don't want to assume it's a feature. Towards SqueakCore

In the interests of revisiting Pavel Krivanek's work, and a long term goal of this community, I thought I'd use the Dependency Browser and dig out interpackage dependencies. By scraping the DependencyBrowser's contents together with a bit of UI scripting I've constructed a dotfile of Trunk (attached). Turning this into a PNG results in an 11MB image! [1] Nodes near the top are nodes that aren't used by many things. For instance, ReleaseBuilder's right at the top because nothing depends on it. One thing to note is that XML-Parser and Nebraska are only used by Universes, and that Universes isn't used by anything else. It occurs to me that we could thus remove these 3 packages from trunk and add the loading of these to ReleaseBuilderFor4dot5 [2], and still end up with a 4.5 that while apparently unchanged, actually has a smaller core. What do you think of trying this out as an experiment? How would we unload these packages? (I should note: I've nothing against these packages. They're just packages that aren't woven into the guts of the image, and are thus easily removable.) frank [1] If you have dot installed, `dot -Tpng -o trunk-deps.dot trunk-deps.png` will do the trick. I noticed we did not have any 4.5 alpha version available for download. A clean update from the 4.4 release to the current 4.5 alpha is now available at http://ftp.squeak.org/4.5alpha. PS -- I accidentally also uploaded .image and .changes but no permissions to delete them. Could someone from box-admins do that or add me to the "updates" group and then I can do it?

Jabber: What/where is OnlineIdentity?

After loading Jabber-jf.8.mcz into Squeak 4.4. JBCBuddyList open. I get a debugger. I'm missing either a class or a global or a classvar or something. OnlineIdentity isn't here. Does anyone know where I'd find it? Thanks in advance. -- Casey Ransberger

I wonder about the Fraction implementation. Since any Integer isFraction I think it's better to simply let super ^0. Synthetizing an unreduced Fraction should be restricted to very specific case. Do you have such specific usage?
