Squeak on Ubuntu 18.04 desktop

Has anyone figured out how to get Squeak's behavior to behave in 18.04 like it did in 16.04 and before? In Ubuntu, Alt+~ (tilde) switches between windows of the same application. But, in 18.04, it no longer works. It treats every running instance of Squeak as a separate "app". It also won't re-top an existing window when using with a .desktop file. Nor will it let me anchor the .desktop file to the bar. Sigh, so Linux.. It makes working with multiple images at once nearly impossible.. Has anyone else encountered this? Thanks, Chris

How to change the update URL for Trunk HTTPS?

Hi all, I spent a number of attempts during the latest months on changing my image's update URL to use HTTPS, but unfortunately, it gets reset each time. Shouldn't I be able to simply change the update URL in the preferences by adding a small "s" behind the "http"? But if I do so, when I press the update button the next time, Squeak starts loading all packages from their initial version (Tools-xyz.1, Morphic-xyz.1, ...). Is there a way to easily change the URL? Time >addSeconds: completely ignores the nanos ivar value and so Time now -> (say) 12:51:47.418205 pm send that #addSeconds: 2 -> 12:51:49 pm Which is incorrect. Actually *fixing* it seems to be a bit more complex than just "add the nanoseconds stuff". Should #asSeconds be truncating the seconds and ignoring the nanoseconds? That's also an issue for #addTime: and #subtractTime: (wait, no #subtractSeconds: ?) TextMorphs support display of text with emphasis. They also support reasonable text-editing capabilities, as well as embedded HOT LINKS

Hi Folks, I searched the web and wiki and did not find any examples of Hot Links or keyboard shortcuts. Editor and its Sub Classes initializeFOOKeyBars does not show anything. Any pointers? Motivation: For Doc, I want to code for links to stuff, similar to what you get in Emacs org-mode https://orgmode.org/manual/Link-Format.html#Link-Format In Emacs, to navigate to the link, I type Ctrl-o to open it . Now, the links do not have to be hypertext to the WWW, links to HelpBrowser on a topic would be useful. I guess I could , upon completion of the search, return DoIts, but hot links bound to a key would fit the idiom better. thank you for your time. P.S. I am inferring that a typical Workspace encapsulates the TextMorph doo-hickey, if it is one of the other editor types, please let me know. thx

Starting an image from SqueakConsole manipulates pwd

Hi all, consider the following terminal session under Windows: ```powershell > cat .\test-output.st FileStream stdout nextPutAll: 'Hello World'; lf ; flush. Smalltalk quitPrimitive. > &"C:\Program Files (x86)\Squeak\SqueakConsole.exe" -headless .\FreshTrunk\FreshTrunk.image .\test-output.st ``` Expected output: Hello Actual output: The VM window opens (first error because I specified the option headless) and shows up a debugger "Error: No content to install". What this error wants to mean is that it could not find the specified file. What I have to do to fix the output is to change the call to the following: > &"C:\Program Files (x86)\Squeak\SqueakConsole.exe" -headless .\FreshTrunk\FreshTrunk.image ..\test-output.st IMO this is a very confusing behavior because it makes it impossible to specify a relative path from the console without thinking "around the corner". If I would run ls ..\test-output.st in the same terminal context, I would get a FileNotFoundException. I never met a comparable situation where starting a script/application from the console manipulated the pwd even before resolving the specified arguments. Is this really desirable? Could we consider this a bug? How is the behavior on other platforms? I cannot test this at the moment because I am getting heartbeat warnings under Linux again. Best, Christoph

[BUG] Text drag and drop to workspace unreliable

Hi, I just noticed that the newly introduced text drag and drop sometimes does not work when dragging text between workspaces. It has always worked until today so I suspect the culprit is among the more recent changes. Problem: When dragging the selected text from one workspace to another, sometimes an object reference is copied to the bindings of the workspace instead of pasting the text. In the target text, the newly created variable name appears instead (e. g. text3997962) as if I had dropped another non-text object. At least the text is not removed from the source workspace when this happens... Problem #2: It does not always happen. When dragging from a third workspace it suddenly worked and then also from the second again. Then I reset my texts back to the old state and now it is broken again. Expected behavior: The selected text from the source workspace is cut from there, and pasted at the drop hand location in the target workspace. Currently I have three workspaces #1, #2, #3. If I drag the selection from #1 to #2, it works. If I drag from #1 to #3 it does not. Dragging from #2 to #3 does not work. Dragging from #2 to #1 does work. Now dragging from #1 to #3 suddenly does work... I dragged to the start of the text this time. Dragging back from #3 to #1 works. Dragging from #1 to #3 to the end of it also works. Dragging back from #1 to #3. Resetting (Cmd+l, lowercase L) text of #3. Dragging from #1 to the end of #3 does not work again. Variable pasted at the start of the text. Repeated dragging of the same text from #1 to #3 always pastes the variable. Dragging to the middle of #3 works! Dragging the pasted text inside of #3 to the end removed the text and pasted a variable instead. Hypothesis: it does not work to drop the text beyond the TextMorphForEditView. And so far I might just have been lucky to always have enough blank lines at the end of my target workspace. Workspaces #1 and #2 from above contain much more text than #3 and fill the whole editing area of the workspace, so this would be consistent. Squeak5.3beta latest update: #19300 Kind regards, Jakob
