Can users/porters of Squeak on PDA's comment on the usability and performance?
My PalmPilot recently died and I'm shopping for something about the same size with a backlit screen and the ability to record a couple of minutes of verbal notes. Squeak support would be a bonus.

I ran the mini image on the Cassiopeia and the HP620LX over a year ago and it ran just fine.

I don't know of any equally small HP, but the Cassio E-10 and variants ought to run Squeak pretty well. It's conceivable that even the old Cassiopeia VM might run, though it would be nice to make up a new one to go with Mini2.2.

There's no new device of that size yet from HP. There's only a model with more memory and a modem. There are rumours that HP may come out with a Palmpilot sized model in the next few months. Hopefully that thing will have StrongArm processor like the bigger Jornada 820.

I've run Squeak on an Cassiopiea A20E (80MHz Hitachi SH3 with keyboard). It runs a bit slowly but is usable. But it also regularly crashes the machine - but then so do many other programs.
My advice is if you want a PDA to use as a PDA stick with Palm(Pilot) - it's still the best.
Even if you got Squeak to run on a Windows CE Palm-sized PC would it be usable without a keyboard?
I've seen pictures of a colour Windows CE palmtop from HP but I don't know if you can buy it yet. I think it uses a 100MHz SH3 - I hate to think what the battery life is like.
