The two links to projects and morphs in the Welcome to window seem dead !

Thank you for pointing this out, Karl.
Checking back, I note that Joern Eyrich earlier made essentially the same observation back in April:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/squeak/message/43761
Can anyone shed any light on the two dead links in question? Someone with write-access to Squeak.org must have removed the relevant files/directories from the site at some point.
(Incidentally I believe that these links have been present in every version of 3.0, 3.1alpha, 3.2beta, and 3.2gamma. They must have been valid at *some* point in the past.)
It would be a travesty to ship 3.2 final with these two dead links in the main Welcome window. Either we need to expunge the Welcome-window paragraphs that invite the user to follow these links, or else we need to change the links so that they point at something else that works and is suitable.
I have no personal experience or association with this particular content, so I hope some reader of this mailing list can help us out here. Until this is resolved, it won't be appropriate to release 3.2 final, so anyone with a very strong interest in seeing 3.2 final actually shipped may wish to step up smartly at this point.
Cheers,
-- Scott

I looked around and tried to load some projects but I got really lost trying to figure out how Project fromUrl: is supposed to work ???
Karl
This is on Bob's SuperSwiki:
Squeak News.001.pr (2001.02.08 17:51) http://209.143.91.36/super/uploads/Squeak%20News.001.pr FinalFrontier.002.pr (2001.06.18 07:13) http://209.143.91.36/super/uploads/FinalFrontier.002.pr
"Squeak News" seems to be a placeholder only... or I'm missing something. This does not work with the text in the welcome window, so this should be replaced. "FinalFrontier" is a texture-mapped (can be changed via drag and drop) spinning planet (and moon) with a nice background image; I think Andreas Raab did this, didn't he?
They both load ok into my 3.2gamma-4889 image (don't have the latest gamma<n>) with the "Load a project" dialog. But I have the same problems as Karl with Project>>fromUrl: - I only get an empty project thumbnail...

I looked a little further and found that Project>>fromUrl: uses class ServerDirectory which holds a collection of server adresses and it looks like '209.143.91.36/super/uploads/' is not in this collection, and this causes some troubles. Why is the server name for loading projects 'hardcoded' in the image ?

Not sure if anyone has pointed this out yet, but -
Under "Shrinking Squeak" in the "Welcome to..." window, as well as under "Image Size" in the ReadMe window, references are made to MajorShrinkFor3.0.cs. I had thought that changeset didn't work any more and was no longer included; if it is, shouldn't it be renamed to MajorShrinkFor3.2.cs?
Avi
Avi,
Thank you!
Historically, Dan has always given special attention to majorShrink before each release.
In the interests of getting this long-delayed 3.2 release out the door however, this time I *think* Dan decided to defer this issue until after the release. (Dan, please correct me if I'm wrong!)
Consequently, the paragraph in the Welcome window concerning shrinking indeed needs to be revised. I suppose admonishing the reader to search the swiki for up-to-date shrinking information might be the right thing to do at this point.
Does anyone have any input or opinion or insight on this issue?
Cheers,

Sounds good to me. Let's get this release out the door already. :-)

That sounds like a reasonable idea. In the Welcome window, you could actually add a direct link to the swiki page http://minnow.cc.gatech.edu/squeak/majorshrink which could then be updated after up-to-date shrinking information is made available.

I have now been able to find comparable content on BSS, and I will paste the corresponding new links into the Welcome window of the release, in place of the dead lnks. So this issue need no longer stop the show.
Any *other* last-minute gotchas? If not, we're back on track to ship 3.2/final on Wednesday morning.

The FileList list a lot of servers like SqueakletsOnDanI, Concorde etc.
And why is it so hard to get back control when you select a server and it can't be accessed ? I keep on getting multiple retry dialogs even if I cancel... Karl
