Hello,
We are working on new Squeakland version of image and now in the process of packaging and adding the natural language translation of the eToys UI. We would like to include as many as possible!
If you have a fairly complete .translation file for your (or any) language, please test it against our working version of image.
The image is available at:
http://www.impara.de/~andreas/sqLand05/sqLand05-05.zip [Europe] http://squeak.hpl.hp.com/~andreas/sqLand05-05.zip [US]
and let us know how it works. (Don't forget to update the image first!) The image is configured to be an eToys friendly preferences, but you should be able to load the translation via FileList. Easiest way would be just copy the .translation file to your "trusted" directory. The LanguageEditor comes with the image, so you can add new phrases there.
I know that there are Czech guys working on their language. We should be able to make that version, perhaps as a loadable package, available from Squeakland website. Let us know if it is feasible thing.
Thank you!

So is anyone doing an English translation? :-)

Funny you should mention this. Yes we have, not only for the UK but also for the US. After all the defaults are more in Geekish than in (any variant of) well-defined English ;-)
Cheers, - Andreas

They certainly are.
One or more of you folks from India ought to think about building some Indian-English translations as well. After all, 'Indlish' is spoken by probably three or four times as many people as English-English. Whilst UK, American and Indian English are still mutually comprehensible (well, just about) they are certainly diverging quite a bit. I couldn't quantify it but I'd say that Canadian and Oz/NZ English are much closer to UK.
Remember the old linguists' joke - a language is a dialect with an army.

Or to paraphrase Churchill: Britain, Canada, NZ, Australia, South Africa, Canada, the United States and India are a collection of countries separated by the same language. To say nothing of the cohort for whom English is a second language--not exactly a small group.

Hi,
Esther's newest German translation is on mantis:

Esther did a changeset with some more calls to "translated" for the image, this is now part of 3.9alpha.
