Folks -
My apologies for letting this drag on. I thought some reasonable support might be forthcoming from the ISP, but their attitude and responsiveness have been somewhere between reptilian and criminal. We're now on a fast track to move the domain to a different site.
Thanks for your patience.

Just as a data point: Earthlink gave us a "free" web site included with our $44.95/month broadband connection. My wife used to use it for hosting pictures for her ebay auctions, and ran into the same problem that squeak.org ran into (running out of her allotted bandwidth before the end of the month, at which point Earthlink would shut the "free" site down until the first of the month when the bandwidth records would reset).
The only solution Earthlink offered, even when I waived more money at them, was to sell me a completely different "pay" site. I couldn't just upgrade my "free" site for an additional fee. So, in effect, our only solution was also to just move to a different site, just as it appears Dan is doing now for squeak.org.
In other words, I'm not surprised, Dan. :-)

As a temporary measure the squeak.org site is now available at

The official mirror (as described on the Swiki) for squeak.org at http://squeak.cs.uiuc.edu/ seems to be alive and well also.

You can also try http://www.squeak.de/ .
It's "mirrored" manually but is up to date right now.

Folks, Squeak.org is back up! Michael Rueger, Dan, and I have removed the source of the problem. No more frustrating times with Global Internet Solutions. This time it is totally under our control.
The mirror site now has my latest minor fixes also. Anytime you see a problem with the Squeak.org site, please tell me.
Enjoy!

I might add that if the IP address of 'squeak.org' has changed (which is likely since it looks like you ditched the old ISP), it might take a few days for the various DNS caches on the various machines around the world to get the updated IP.
So, for some people, it still might not be up :-)

It should be up for everyone because step 1 was just to deal with the service-free ISP and upgrade the service so as to restore access. And this I have done.
However, we are also in process on the other fork of the solution, as it involves a couple of further steps (my registrant info is all out of date, so I can't monkey with my registration until I get things straightened out through various non-on-line mechanisms).
But the plan is still to take things into our own hands, and this should be able to happen within a week. Isn't it funny to have a language that you can change faster than your web site service parameters? ;-)
I want to thank everyone for the wonderful show of support we've received in this brief trauma. We may well come back to one of you for long-term hosting of Squaek.org after the dust settles.
And thanks, all, for your patience, too

I don't know whether it's slow response on the part of the "service-free ISP" or slow DNS propagation, but as of right now Squeak.org still comes up with the "bandwidth exceeded" page via Earthlink. It's not my local cache, and Earthlink is usually very good with updates, but I'll try some of my other ISPs if the problem persists.

Nope. Four ISPs all return the same "509" error page. The mirrors, including www.squeak.de, are fine. Kinda funny, as you say, to have to wait interminably for the web to update a site about a language any user can update in an instant.

Hi Dan--
Just in case you're not already doing this... I think it's a very good idea to get connectivity and name service from separate entities. Ideally, the name service is from someone who provides a web interface for changing your A records, so you can change them quickly when changing connectivity providers. And avoid Network Solutions. :)
FWIW, I've gotten good service so far from the people doing my connectivity (perfecthost.net) and name service (register.com).
