Hi all!
With the help of Dan we now have simpler control over squeak.org!
Dan still owns the domain but it is now pointed at nameservers on zoneedit.com where I (Goran) have an account and can edit the domain in full using a simple web UI.
I have started with repointing squeak.org and www.squeak.org to box1.squeakfoundation.org (our community paid server) and hopefully our VirtualHost setup there will catch it and it will look just as before - we have already mirrored over the content.
These changes may cause down periods - it seems some areas of Internet are seeing the change of nameservers, but Zoneedit hasn't seen it yet. Anyway, if www.squeak.org is down for you I apologize and hopefully it will be available as soon as the DNS information has spread in full.
regards, Göran
Thank you Goran and Dan. This is a big step in getting the new Squeak home page into the public arena.
There is still work to be done. I am compiling some screenshots, for instance. Goran is working on some texts for the site. To find out how one may help to get the site live, please see my comments in the Website Team Update Report (http://lists.squeakfoundation.org/pipermail/squeak-dev/2005-June/092246.html).
Thanks again to everyone helping to get the new Squeak.org site in the public's eye.

Hi jason
I suggest not to point with Swiki for the screenshots Swiki look is ugly. I suggest also to do thumbnails as I did for my site http://smallwiki.unibe.ch/botsinc/ to speed up load.

So, what's the new ip address, or the dns server at zoneedit.com?
Is this a site squeak.org location: new content: old or a site squeak.org location: new content: new ?

Congrats, Goran & Dan!
Although congrats are perhaps a bit premature, it looks like http://squeak.org is showing a 504 Gateway Timeout for me, as of 7pm EDT. The DNS information must not have spread everywhere yet.

It seems that the namelookup for squeak.org (still) completely fails.
Usually parts of the net just resolve to the old IP address while the change propagates.
Could somebody check that the DNS server setup is correct?

The name lookup is already transfered to the new nameservers (NS8/NS13.zoneedit.com), but the name is obviously not registered on these nameservers yet.

Goran;
I've used ZoneEdit for years and never had a domain propagation take more than a day; might there be a problem in the setup? As of this morning www.squeak.org is still missing.
I'd be happy to help if I can.

It seems that zoneedit didn't publish the records. The root servers point to ns8/ns13.zoneedit.com, but these disclaim any knowledge about the domain...
BTW: we *have* nameservers running. Why are we relying on an external source?

Well, I just wanted it done. I can redo it and point at... what? Cees, can you give me the names and I will repoint it there? (box1.squeakfoundation.org simply?)

a.ns.squeakfoundation.org and b.ns.squeakfoundation.org can be used. You need to add the zone records to /service/tinydns/root/data.local and then run make.

Ok, it seems you beat me to it, right? Last part in data.local:
.squeak.org:80.68.89.134:a .squeak.org:69.72.148.198:b +squeak.org:80.68.89.134 +www.squeak.org:80.68.89.134 +ftp.squeak.org:80.68.89.134

Works now, but the virtual host entry fro squeak.org seems to be missing, ends up on the generic squeakfoundation page. www.squeak.org works.
Ok, I think I fixed it. Here the DNS still isn't updated so I can't see if it works.

Indeed! And sorry for the downtime during the weekend. Anyway, now the next step is to handedit the current "old" site to include 3.8 (I will do that later this week) and then we are moving forward with the SmallWiki based stuff - but Jason has that ball.

I actually haven't been doing a lot here yet. I have been making some screenshots at home on the weekends (the day job has me overwhelmed during the week). I will get another report out on or about July 5th. Hopefully by that time I will have some screen shots on the site instead of links to SWiki.

Looking pretty good so far. Even on Oregano2 without CSS (etc) support) it reads ok.
In the Downloads section, the RISC OS files can be obtained best by pointing people to http://www.rowledge.org/tim/squeak/RISCOSSqueak.html though I can trivially provide a single zip to store on box1 if that is a preferred option.

Hi. When I was trying to install a package, Squeak raises an error I've never seen. "You have reached the size limit of the changes file. You must take action now to reduce it.Close this error. Do not attempt to proceed " My changes file is 33Mb size. I don't know how this happened. I have had much more heavy images files in older version, mut the changes file had never grown so much. I searched in the web but I didn't find anything about that. Would you help me with this problem? Could I simply change in method CompiledMethod>>chechToAdd: at: the variable filesizeLimite without expecting unusual behaviour?
Thanks in advance.
Sorry. One minute after I had written the former mail, I found the solution.
Smalltalk condenceChanges.
Anyway, I'm planning to use the Squeak image as a database. I think I will have problems with this changes size limit. Should I change this variable?
Thanks.

No. What you see is size limit for the <image name>.changes file, which stores sources for code you write, load, file-in etc. It doesn't store smalltalk objects.
The image itself (which you want to use as db) can grow much larger, I don't know what the limit is, 1GB should be possible.
And there was much rejoicing! Thanks for getting this done.
So if I'm not mistaken, squeak.org shows the same site but on a new server, and squeak.org:7777 will be rolled out there "when it's ready".

Exactemente. It is now running under apache2 on box1.squeakfoundation.org. Well, "the same" but edited a bit. :)
And the squeak.org domain is now managed on the DNS server on box1, which means we could set up for example mail.squeak.org etc.
And one thing we have already done is to set up ftp://ftp.squeak.org - which from now on is the preferred primary archive of files and is the area which Bruce maintains. It is the same area accessible as http://box1.squeakfoundation.org/files - we should of course make a more suitable http-url - like say http://ftp.squeak.org or http://files.squeak.org or whatever. Opinions?

+1.
Also +1 for phasing out mention of the old urls, even if we still support them, to reduce confusion.
