thanks for correcting this. This ** No VM ** at the slide was meant in the context of the execution of a deployed ( C-translated ) ST/X application. It is better to state that there is no bytecode interpretation in case of ( STC ) compiled Smalltalk. You can mix even compiled and interpreted code.
This was meant as an ** additional feature ** and is of course not a limitation of this great Smalltalk. Sorry I didn't focus much on ST/X .
