Will Camp Smalltalk definitely be set up somewhere (ie, in the exhibit hall like last year) that an exhibits-only pass will get you into? If so, maybe I'll cancel my registration... ;)

I can't comment on any individual's personal financial situation. However, broad application of this tactic could be very shortsighted. If OOPSLA continues to loose money (like I believe it did last year) then at some point ACM will discontinue it. If we want OOPSLA to continue as a venue for Squeak/Smalltalk activities then we need to support the conference by paying our way.

If I could, I would. Though I have to say that even if I were making the glorious salary of olden days (rmember, before we got bushwhacked) I would have a hard time justifying paying for the selection of talks etc offered in recent years. Too much low quality reinvention of wheels that even the younger people here know have been invented before.

Totally agreed. I myself am going to OOPSLA this year. I will pay the money which supports, er, uh, somebody. OTOH, I know that I pay far less to attend a CampSmalltalk and get far more out of it. If ACM/OOPSLA dies on the vine, but replacement by cheaper conferences more tailored to what people are willing to make happen in place occurs, I don't see this as such a bad thing.
