Not much. Looking Glass seems to be nothing more than a fancy window 
manager. All it does is take the 2D windows and use them as texture on 
3D objects. The same could easily be done in MacOS X desktop, where 
each window is already a texture displayed via OpenGL (cf. 
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/fastuserswitching/). Or one could 
perhaps modify XFree86 to look the same - IIRC, there is even an X 
extension being developed that allows exactly this: managing each 
window as a separate surface, possibly using OpenGL.

Well, you could compare the goal of "create fancy-looking window 
decorations" with the vision of the Croqueteers. Perhaps their summary 
gives you a glimpse on the difference
