Trouble running tests

Help... I can't get tests to run, when I try I get a walkback complaining about addTest: not being understood. Below is the stack. I clearly have TestSuite>>addTest: in my image, I visually inspected that, but... Is there a way to force a recompile on TestSuite? I am running 'Squeak3.4b-5156.image' with a few packages installed from SqueakMap. Any help would be appreciated -- on that note, I am not sure what to tell besides the following trace. This is a brand new image -- the only changes are SqueakMap and the loaded packages. I don't know when tests began to not run, since I didn't try running them at the start. But the first time I ran, I got the walkback. I don't see why having an image is any different from having a file system. To me, an image is analogous to the bits on your hard drive. It holds a whole operating system. You make changes to you operating system (add applications) be executing installers. That is analogous to filing in changesets into an image. It seems the world excepts these installers as having different licenses. Why can't changesets, or classes, or methods, or packages have different licenses? Distributing a whole image is analogous to distributing a whole operating system, like RedHat Linux or Microsoft Windows. How do they handle all the different licenses in their distribution? Failing SUnit tests in 3.4b

One thing that would be nice for any "final" Squeak release, such as 3.4, is to have the SUnit tests all passing. There are currently a few tests which are failing. Oddly enough, they are different tests on different platforms, which means they're either VM-related or otherwise platform-specific (such as the platform-specific stuff in *FileDirectory, etc.) Here is what I am seeing with the current 3.4beta-5156: On Mac OS X (Carbon VM 3.2.8Beta9, and CocoaSqueak-3.2.4): ------------ 3 failed: FileDirectoryTests>>testDeleteDirectory FileDirectoryTests>>testDirectoryExists FileDirectoryTests>>testExists 1 with errors: FileList2ModalDialogsTest>>testModalFolderSelector (these failures/errors were not in 3.2) On Windows 2000 (3.2.3 VM / Tea 1.8 VM): ---------------- 1 failed: TestUUIDPrimitives>>testCreationRandom (this failure was also in 3.2) (Are any tests failing under Linux?) Anyway, I seem to remember something on the list around the time of the FileDirectory fixes, about a change still needing to be made in the VM, or in the tests, or something. :-) There are a few other fixes afoot right now for 3.4beta (including one related to UUID). It would also be nice to get these tests cleaned up while we're at it. Any insight on these would be appeciated. - Doug Way

Bencmarking image

Hey everyone! I was wondering about comparing performance of a Jornada 720 to an iPAQ 36xx and 39xx. So, eventually my thoughts wondered to the idea of making a wee MVC image with a bunch of different benchmarks and a fileformat to email me for compiling it all. This will be quite easy to do on a majorshrunk 3.0 image. My question for everyone is what benchmarks do we want on it? I would be greatful if anyone sent me code for any benchmarking that's not in the image- there is macroBenchmark (right?) and tinyBenchmarks. I'm interested in bencmarks that test graphics, CPU, and memory speeds. Hi all, I've repackaged some of my projects in SAR. No major version-ups. But at least you can easily install them (Dandelion, SIXX, SoapCore) from SqueakMap. [ANN] GLORP Port 0.2.18 on SqueakMap

The latest GLORP, version 0.2.18, is now available from SqueakMap. It has been tested on Squeak3.4beta, update #5156. Other than the Squeak port available here, GLORP version 0.2.18 is currently ONLY available on the Cincom Public Repository for VisualWorks. And, it is the very latest (as of 12/23/02). Hence, Squeak and VisualWorks have the latest GLORP, while Dolphin and VisualAge are a bit behind. This port uses Yanni Jew's PostgreSQL driver 0.8.1 (actually, it uses 0.8.1 that Yanni emailed to me, so I assume he will release it in the same form that he emailed it to me). This is also the very latest PostgreSQL driver (as of 12/23/02). This port will install the driver for you. This GLORP port WILL NOT WORK with any earlier PostgreSQL driver, hence it is HIGHLY recommended that you use the driver that this port wants to install! basicIsSqueak test

Hi all, I'm currently porting GLORP version 0.2.18 to Squeak. When I did the 0.2.14 port, I created the following method for the GLORP Dialect class: basicIsSqueak Smalltalk at: #SqueakPage ifAbsent: [^ false]. ^ true This method must reliable return 'true' if and only if the code is called from within a Squeak image. I couldn't think of any particular "reliable" test other than what I have shown above. Does anybody have a different suggestion for a reliable #basicIsSqueak test? Thanks, Nevin

Environment?

For some stuff I'm working on I'm looking at the class 'Environment' etc and wondering if anyone knows if it actually works (ever? still? with some extra fileins?). I wasn't able to spot anything about it on the Swiki and there appears to be no actual use of it within the 3.4 image.
