I'm looking around the image for an example of an application that has multi-select ( and ideally, multi-select-and-delete ) functionality. Is there such an example in the image, or in a package on SqueakMap?

Which is another way of saying that it responds to a certain protocol. Yes, but the central point is that while Attribute "knows" what that protocol is, from the outside, _we_ don't, so we can't test for it. It's rather like the Color>> = example, where the protocol in question consists only of private methods that nobody outside the class has any business even knowing the existence of. It will understand certain messages I plan to send to it when I have to interact with it. No, it's not about the messages *you* send to it, but the messages *Attribute* sends to it, which is a very different thing. That's a protocol/interface/set of methods/whatever you want to call it. Indeed it is, but it isn't necessarily one KNOWN TO OUTSIDERS. In any case, there is no way of testing for a protocol in Smalltalk other than sending an #isFoo message.

Headless image

Hello! Does anyone have any good suggestions on how to shrink down a image for a embedded system? Is there any images like that around? I've looked around but didn't find anything useful. I'm also wondering over a good way of accessing strings in the image from C functions. Is writing your own primitives the best way of doing that? Thanks! Johannes

Wget and HTTPSocket

My recent Squeak work has done a lot of downloading via HTTP, hitting the swiki.gsug.org server. My impression is that HTTPSocket is not very robust for handling situations where it should retry a request; I routinely find that loading about a hundred URLs is enough to create an error within Squeak. In contrast, wget handles retries with no problem and downloads documents really fast from the GSUG website. Right now for the sake of not going crazy during development, I am using wget to update a local email .txt file repository and then loading from there. Am I missing something? I'd really like my project ( the Bug Fixes Archive viewer ) to be able to update its list via HTTP, within Squeak. Would using Flow or the network rewrite that's on SqueakMap help me?

TextStyle, FontSet et al.

Whilst playing with the new declarative pools stuff I noticed (as mentioned in earlier missives to this august body) that TextStyle is rather obnoxiously mixed up with TextConstants. I am proposing here to try to untangle that thicket of horrors by letting TextStyle keep track of text styles. Does anyone see reason not to do this? I've also discovered FontSet, which seems to me to be completely unused and not really needed anymore. [newbie] text color

hello! successfully installed 3.5. #5180 opened a book-morph inserted a text-morph the halo gives me Change font, Change style and Emphasis & alignment .. Change font, Change style do exactly the same but there is no possibility (i could find) to change the text color i browsed various classes, but its a little to much for a beginner like me to find where to change a halo item. aside - it would be nice if a selected text would give me a menue with the options i have to change it. thx, reinhard

[Q] More morphic layout fun

G'day all, In the following code, I'm programmatically adding the contents of ImageImports to a Rectangle morph... the results aren't at all what I expect... the created IconicButtons are laid out in a nice 4x3 grid, but they extend outside the bounds of the Morph they are being added to, and their bounds are increasing as they are added... any ideas? mouseEvents - which mouseKey?

Hi Squeakers, I am using self on: #mouseUp send: #mouseClick: to: self. to catch mouseEvents. When exploring the Event I get sent, I see whichButton: 4 and whichButton: 2 for what is my left and right mouseButton respectively. Are these numbers tied to my mouseButtons as layoutet on my mouse, or to the squeaky coloured button names? Or is there even a better way to find out which button has been pressed? Tank you, Ingo
