[BUG] TextPropertiesMorph - overflow

If you have a text that's substantially large, opening a TextPropertiesMorph to add color becomes impossible. The window opens as large as your full text - is there an alternative? I believe it needs a scrollbar! Can I make this fix and turn it in? also - GeeMail gets blown away when you open TextPropertiesMorph... but I'm not sure where its best to begin with this, (it could call for a rethinking of TextPropertiesMorph - make edits to the existing TextMorph instead of a tmp copy? - evidently this problem with GeeMail occurs btwn the transition from 'TextPlusMorph', to tmp TextMorph, and back to TextPlusMorph). If no one has an opinion on this then I'll go ahead and do these changes! (or please inform me otherwise) - adios, Webb McDonald 1324481.14 662809.63

I file this in to every new image to get more accurate project loading progress bars, and it still works for me. So I thought I'd repost. from preamble: "Change Set: SlightProgress-sm Date: 3 Nov 2001 Author: Simon Michael Make project loading progress indicators slightly more accurate by storing timing data separately for local & remote downloads. After loading a few projects you should notice less flickering, especially when downloading large projects over a slow link. Also fixes the spelling of the TranslucentProgressMorph class."!

[Bug] The ever-widening PluggableTextMorph

( PluggableTextMorph on: nil text: nil accept: nil readSelection: nil menu: nil ) extent: 50@100; editString: 'This is some really long text that will hopefully cause the PTM to wrap and a scollbar appear'; hResizing: #shrinkWrap; openInWorld. Now either extend the text or just wiggle the scrollbar and watch the PluggableTextMorph widen and widen. The hResizing: #shrinkWrap seems to lead to this behaviour. Ken

[BUG] Debugger Highlighting still not quite right in 3.6 when browseWithPrettyPrint enabled

I'm still having problems with debugger highlighting even in a 3.6 image upgraded to 5387. The best way I can come up with to give you a repeatable way to see this: 1. Start with a 5387 image like the one at ftp://st.cs.uiuc.edu/pub/Smalltalk/Squeak/3.6beta/Squeak3.6b-5387.zip 2. Go into the preferences and enable browseWithPrettyPrint 3. Open the Package Loader (SqueakMap). 4. File in Celeste Removal. This results in a UndefinedObject methodsFor:? debugger prompt. 5. Browse the stack. Guess I'll file the Celeste Removal issue seperately. ;) Ken

[BUG] BFAV/KCP archive problem

I just tried out the BFAV browser on the KCP archive. Somewhere around number 88 it failed because the #timeSent of an entry was nil. I really can't quite work out how this could arise since the mail implementation of #time seems to take some pains to prevent that possibility. A quick hack changing the ArchivePost>timeSent to return 0 if the ivar is nil got me past that initial problem. The MailMessage>time method uses ifError:, a crime for which there is no adequate punishment. Well, maybe an enforced watching of dumb and dumberer? Amen to that. BTW, everyone is welcome to join the review fest going on in the final hours of 3.6alpha by installing the BFAV and reviewing/testing/ commenting something (even if its small). [BUG] BFAV requires net access to write a response

I was trying to open as a mail a response I'd written, so that it get put in my Celeste queue for later sending. I think this shouldn't require net access - being able to work offline is an important feature. The following lines show the culprit. I'm trying to create a button that will delete a morph named JeffsTestMorph (sublass of Morph). Through inheritance, JeffsTestMorph inherits the delete method does it not? On mouseDown for my button, I have the following: mouseDown: evt JeffsTestMorph delete. But when I click on the button I get MessageNotUnderstood: delete. Could someone tell this Squeak newbie what he's doing wrong? Thanks, Jeff

[ENH][VM] faster image startup

Make image startup slightly faster. a) Don't rewrite all oops to clear the mark bit, only rewrite the ones that have the mark bit set. b) Don't rewrite all oops to change oops address if the offset is zero which is the case on the mac when the same vm reads a recently saved image because of how the memory map is located. Unknown if this is the case on wintel. c) Don't rescan the entire image a second time to null out compiled methods with an external primitive call, remember those oops on the first scan, then later null out the 320 or so contexts, versus rescaning 260 thousands oops Now one of the 'ugly' things I did here to avoid altering the Interpreter class definition and having 16K of memory sucked up by a global one-time use table is to allocate a local 4096 element Array in ObjectMemory>>initializeObjectMemory: which gets passed to an altered adjustAllOopsBy: which remembers the methods oops that have refer to external primitives as it's looking for Oops with the Mark Bit set. That array with the stored count is returned and at the end of initializeObjectMemory we decide to invoke the old flushExternalPrimitives if the count is >= 4095 or in my testing with the base image since we only have 320 oops that match it means just invoking flushExternalPrimitiveOf: on the remembered oops. At startup time we reduce the CPU time by 8% based on the changes to initializeObjectMemory:, and remove another 4% based on a no-longer required rescan by flushExternalPrimitives. Although these changes reduce powerpc startup time by just a little it should make some noticeable changes for 100MB images, or on machines that are *much* slower. Other changes go into the mac source code to reorganize how the menu bar is manipulated and not to start the 1/60 clock pthread until it's really required. That shaves a bunch of clock time off and now startup is much more snappy. -- ======================================================================== === John M.
