Load OmniBase in Squeak

Hi there, how is supoused to load OmniBase in Squeak? I'm trying the versions in squeak map and squeaksource and both are failing to load on Squeak3.9-final-7067.image I'm missing something? Sebastian

improving the quality of the image

One of my goals for 3.10 is to improve the quality of the image. Our first release (coming soon!) will have only green tests, and each following release will have only green tests. But there are many other things that could be checked automatically. For example, there should be no unimplemented methods in the released image. Unfortunately, there are a lot right now, so we can't make that rule. But I would like to have all these fixed by the end of the 3.10 cycle and to be able to enforce the rule that no release has any unimplemented methods. Jerome Peace has been working on getting rid of unimplemented methods and has a lot of fixes. You can find them at http://bugs.impara.de/view.php?id=4544 This is the original Mantis issue that he has been working on. Most of the fixes are in "child" issues, but you can find them from that page. You can help by checking Jerome's fixes. If you are familiar with the code he is changing, read it and see whether you can spot anything wrong. If you can, post a note. If you can't, please post a note that, as far as you can tell, it looks good. If you aren't that familiar with the code, but are working on an application that uses it, please file in the changes and try out your application. Again, report on the results! If two or three people try out some changes and everybody thinks they are OK, the release team will mark the issue as "resolved" and put it in the next release. We will make sure the code doesn't break any tests. But if you don't try out the code then we'll have to try it, as well, and that will take a lot more time. So, you can help us get more work done by checking out these fixes. Thanks! -Ralph Johnson

Hi all, I would like to help to the community, and, because there are people like me, with difficult learning Squeak/Smalltalk, I want to help them. I have ZyoForma, an e-learning platform and I will give it to offer Free Squeak Courses. The platform is based on moodle, and all (teachers, developers), can use it for his own courses to help learning Squeak or Object Oriented Concepts. The courses can have chats, forums, wikis, cuestionaries, and all the necessary content to make an online course. There are some conditions: - The course must be free (as speech, and as a beer). Creative Commons license or similar. - The courses must be in English. Other languages are supported but only under translating others. This will help to get all the possible courses on a main language like English. If you want, for example, publish a course about morphic, you need it on English and then, other language you want to publish. You can translate courses from english to your language if you want. I think this, can help existing wikis and webs to be more easy to learn Squeak and related. IMHO something like this is necessary, because for some people, is very difficult learn Squeak and his concepts browsing only the image, Probably it's the best way, but more people disturbs spending time without results. First, is necessary have a minimal concepts, then, you will be preapared to browse the image and other things. If you are familiarized with e-learning platforms, ZyoForma accept SCORM[1] files. Setting up a simple Wiki...

Hi! I am planning to set up a simple wiki for personal use (noting my tasks, thoughts, etc.) and maybe more. I decided to use SmallWiki, as it seems to work really fine in practice (www.squeak.org is very nice). At first I tried Pier, but it was a bit complicated for me, as I am not familiar with Seaside and I really don't want to develop web applications. So I downloaded the SmallWiki prepared image from http://homepage.mac.com/jborden23/FileSharing3.html. Loading from SqueakMap to 3.9 did not really work out (getting a dependency message and after ignoring it getting another error on a non-existing method in Monticello?). The prepared image is a Squeak 3.7 one and works just fine but I did run into troubles when trying to configure SmallWiki. So here are some questions, maybe you can help me: 1.) I don't really understand the difference between roles and users. If I enter the wiki, I have automatically anonymous role? Why can't I edit any page then? 2.) I tried to protect a page, that should not be viewable by other users then admin. I executed the script I found in the SmallWiki FAQ: (server root at: 'Secret') roles: (OrderedCollection with: (BasicRole name: 'anonymous')) " this role has no permissions " but I could still access the page when I normally entered it without any login. Am I doing something wrong? 3.) How can I remove actions (RSS for example) from the upper right corner? I think that's pretty much it. I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance, Elod

but I don't know how to operate the FileList opened by TIFFSelfTest displayResults... Thanks for making the changes, Koji. I've been able to narrow the problem down. What I've been trying to do is add a color TIFF image to the pdf, that is add a color bitmap. I would actually prefer to add a Form, but SPDF is TIFF centric. TIFFImage has a class method TIFFImage fromFileNamed: aString ^self fromFile: (Filename named: aString) where Filename doesn't exist as a class. TIFFImage fromFile: aFilename | readStream | readStream := aFilename readStream. readStream binary. ^self fromByteArray: readStream contents So I thought to add a class method fromFileWithName: aFilename | readStream | readStream := StandardFileStream readOnlyFileNamed: aFilename. readStream binary. ^self fromByteArray: readStream contents and duplicate test13 changing the image aquisition to image := (TIFFImage fromFileWithName:'blokken.tif') directories first. If I put an uncompressed 24-bit TIFF in blokken.tif, an invalid pdf file is created. If I put in a uncompressed 4-bit TIFF with an odd width, the process halts with: Halt: No class is ready to handle tag #320. With an even width the invalid pdf is created again. A b/w tiff has the same problems but the 24-bit TIFF does not have the even/odd problems. Stephan

Keith, Running tests from the browser is a fine idea. Can a test case be a member of more than one suite in your approach? I suspect that most of the time, I run more tests than I really need to run, which is fine to a point. Early in trying to fix something, I will lock in on one test and #prod: that until it passes anyway, so there is little harm in snaring some extra tests. With that said, some bugs work down to a struggle among some stubborn test methods (e.g. any three will pass but not all of them), at which point it is nice to be able to tweak the set that runs. I got started doing this kind of testing in part because Dolphin's sunit browser did not handle selections as well as I wanted. It would run selected tests, but the selection would get clobbered with the resets, and (my fault I realize) it was too easy to run all vs. running the selected methods. It started as a compromise, but I quickly grew to like using the browser for getting the big picture and then using doits to drive debugging of failing tests. I _think_ the runner I see in Squeak does a good job of selection handling, but I have not used it enough to give a good judgement. Bill Keith Hodges: With so much in the class hierarchy, including extra functionality such as time-outs in my TestCasePlus class moving an arbitrary test out to another class just would not work. Tests are rarely just isolated items. Fast way to put pixels on the screen

Hello, what is a fast way to put pixels on the screen? I have an array with coefficients between 0.0 and 1.0 and want to colour code them (0 white ... 1 blue). For smaller numbers (up to 50 X 50) I put morphs (rectangles) into a big morph and just set their colour. For small spots Form>>colorAt:put: might be an option, reading the coordinates for at: from a predefined array. But I might want to use 2x2 pixel dots in a 3x3 raster. Is 3.9 fully functional to work in a project for production use?
