Why do we have SmallDictionary?

Hi, I was messing around with SmallDictionary when I suddenly realised that I can't find a single reason to use it over a normal Dictionary. While its name and class comment imply that it is somehow an optimised Dictionary, I don't see any measurement where that actually holds up. The following was run in a Pharo 7 image on a recent VM (see below): | d | d := SmallDictionary new. d sizeInMemory. "24" [100000 timesRepeat: [ 1 to: 100 do: [ :i | d at:i put: i] ] ] timeToRun. "0:00:00:05.226" [100000 timesRepeat: [ d at: 48 ifAbsent: [] ] ] timeToRun. "0:00:00:00.041" | d | d := Dictionary new. d sizeInMemory. "16" [100000 timesRepeat: [ 1 to: 100 do: [ :i | d at:i put: i] ] ] timeToRun. "0:00:00:00.385" [100000 timesRepeat: [ d at: 48 ifAbsent: [] ] ] timeToRun. "0:00:00:00.006" As you can see, SmallDictionary is 8 bytes larger per instance and significantly faster while reading and writing (I know that this isn't a good benchmark but it suffices to make my point). Is anyone aware of a reason for hanging on to SmallDictionary? I'm also curious to know how SmallDictionary came to be. There must have been some advantage over Dictionary at some point in the past. Zero is positive?

I was just found a bug in my code because I had written it assuming that the number 0 (zero) is neither positive nor negative. It failed because: 0 positive "true" Really? Ah, okay, there's #strictlyPositive, I'll use that. But it seems like #nonNegative might be a better name then!

Help: inbox repo in MC browser

All, While updating http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/3279 on how to contribute to squeak, I realized that the procedure could be simplified if Inbox is already part of MC repo in a released image. However, I couldn't submit a patch for this because it looks like the repos are initialized from an external file at the time of building the release image :-(. I see methods like isTrunk and isInbox in the code. The trunk repo is part of the built-in list but not inbox. Is there any reason why it was left out? Is it possible to include it in the next release? Thanks .. Subbu

[Test][Squeak5.2a] space bar short cut does not close help morph

Hello Drop http://www.squeakland.org/content/showcase/everyone/accounts/digimath/Frog%… onto a Squeak 5.2a-18117 desktop and a frog puzzle is loaded. click on 'help'. The help screen is supposed to go away when hitting the 'space bar'. But it does not. Suggestions how to fix this? --Hannes

[Test][Squeak5.2a] Shift-click on main world "docking bar" menu item

Hi, My computer thought I was holding down Shift today for no good reason, which exposed this weird one. I've verified on another computer. - Shift-click a menu item in the "docking bar" menu: the menu at the top of your Squeak screen. (That is, the menu with the Squeak logo at the leftmost, followed by Projects, Tools, Apps, Do, Extras, Windows, Help.) Maybe choose to shift-click Project (or is it Projects?). - The item will become renamable, similarly to a what happens if you shift-cick a SystemWindow titlebar. However, it will be oriented slightly to the left and upwards of the original menu item text. - Try to type some replacement text. If your results are the same as mine, it will let you enter one character and then it will accept your changes.
