Patch: Playing readonly sound files

Hi, In the latest Etoys image, media files are being opened using oldFileNamed: which opens in "write" mode. On Linux, users may not necessarily have write permissions on media files (e.g. /usr/share/sounds/). This causes a MNU dialog to popup. The attached patch uses readOnlyFileNamed: method for opening files. With this change, Karl's drag/drop support for sound files worked fine on Linux. Can someone with an XO machine confirm if this patch works? Regards .. Subbu

[ANN] GNUPlot squeak binding

I'm just added a new package to squeaksource, named GNUPlot. It can be used to generate plots from data by executing OS gnuplot command from squeak. Currently is pretty obscure and have not very clean design, but it works. You can generate gorgeous images with plots to show some statistics to end-users. :) You can find some use examples in GNUPlotExamples class. Link at squeaksource: http://www.squeaksource.com/GNUPlot Gnuplot docs and downloads: http://www.gnuplot.info/ We plan to use gnuplot with gjallar project, to show some eye-candy statistics to users browsers. Repository is opened for updates, so anyone who will, can post updates(there's much to things to add). Squeak VM 3.10

I recently tried to upgrade my Windows VM to the latest 3.10 version of the VM. ( This is on my Windows ME box ) However when I tried to open my 3.9image I get the error Unable to read image bytes 0 of 4. The images work fine with the older 3.7 VM. I also tried to open a fresh 3.9 image with the new VM but received the same error. Is the 3.10 image only for the new 3.10 Version of squeak or is there something else happening. Bruce Haugland

DeflateStream unable to write binary streams?

I was playing with GZipWriteStream and ZLibWriteStream, trying to write compressed binary data in the middle of a chunk file, like so: writeDelta: aDelta stream nextPutAll: '!DSBinStReader new!'. (DataStream on: (GZipWriteStream on: stream)) nextPut: aDelta This didn't work at all. First, GZipWriteStream wasn't even writing to the stream, but to it's own internal collection. DeflateStreams seem to try to seize control of the entire underlying stream or collection. Second, it wouldn't accept the binary data that DataStream was feeding it. It seems to only accept character data, as sending the message #binary to a DeflateStream does nothing. Sorry, I just cannot find the right button to do so. I browsed the senders of self in 3.10 7137 (usual sanity check). It happens I am the author of a bug. I want to reopen http://bugs.squeak.org/bug_view_page.php?bug_id=3574 where I uploaded a patch. Note that another undue sender of self is signed wiz. SequenceableCollection>>#assertSlopesWith:from:to: It seems this method lack a segment of code. Cheers

How to reopen a mantis issue Hi nicolas, Good catch. SequenceableCollection>>#assertSlopesWith:from:to: is an unsent method. It documented dynamic constraints on slopes and knots for clamped cubic splines. I thought I had removed it. Ahhh, the problem seems to be one of packaging 'assertSlopesWith:from:to: {Collections-Abstract}' slipped into Collections while the rest of the methods are packaged in Morphic e.g. 'changeInSlopes: {*Morphic-NewCurves-cubic support}' Removal fix now at: 0006698: #assertSlopesWith:from:to: in SeqColl needs to be removed http://bugs.squeak.org/view.php?id=6698 Thanks for spotting this.
