In this he architected full conversion between native and non-native windows, both dynamically and over snapshot. So when he came to implement the GUI for Newspeak he used that experience. I don't see the same architectural support in Graphics-External-Ffenestri it doesn't even support snapshot and resume on the same window system. Here's the relevant extract from HostWIndowProxy's class comment: "This is a proxy for a Host OS window and as such is considered a disposable item. When an image is restarted the client must recreate suitable instances from the information they hold." So I expect Vassili didn't even think of using it. Vassili's work doesn't need any VM support beyond the ability to ask the VM to /not/ respond to GUI events. It is based on the FFI and uses callbacks to receive events. How can I listen to my app?

I've decided I want to get a feel for what my app is doing and at what rate by, literally, listening to it. I want to put in some brief beeps into strategic locations. But sound is an area where I have exactly zero experience. I want the sounds to play but with minimal impact on the running program; i.e., I'm willing to make the beeps very short, but even a 10ms beep (would I even be able to hear that?) would slow the program down. And yet, if I tried to play them in the background, they will not be in-sync with with the real-time state of the app. I suppose another option would be to record the events I'm interested in and their time and play them back later, but I'm more interested in the *real-time* state. Finally, how can I play any sound at all with Squeak and Cog on Linux? When I try some of the demo sounds on FMSound, there is no sound and I see this message in the console: sound: /dev/dsp: No such file or directory Of course, no other apps on this machine have any trouble playing sounds, so is something simply pointing in the wrong place? Thanks.

Hi all, I just want to give you a short Heads Up on the still upcoming "Vancouver Island Camp Smalltalk3rd - 5th October 2014". We soon need to prepare and register a meeting place, accomodation options as well as transportation arrangements. These depend very much on the amount attendees we may expect. So please, give us a short note if you will join. We are also interested in your interests/needs/limitations regarding your stay or Camp Smalltalk contributions. Since there are several ways to reach Vancouver Island it would be very helpful if you could also let us know if you would either reach Vancouver Island by... ...plane/float plane via: Nanaimo, Victoria, Comox ...ferry: Nanaimo (Dukepoint, Departure Bay), Victoria (Swartzbay/Downtown) ...bus (Greyhound): Nanaimo ...or by car. Please let us also know if you might be able to pick somebody up at on of the just mentioned transportation hubs. Hi Frank, I'd rather see on: exception do: handlerAction "Evaluate the receiver in the scope of an exception handler. The following primitive is just a marker used to find the error handling context. See MethodContext>>#isHandlerOrSignalingContext. " <primitive: 199> <handler> ^ self value! isHandlerContext "is this context for #on:do:?" ^self isHandlerOrSignalingContext and: [ (self method pragmaAt: #handler) notNil: ] etc, rather than testing the selector. I'd also like to see the code in MethodCOntext (e.g. where method can be directly accessed) than in ContextPart. Remember that some time soon we can collapse ContextPart and MethodContext onto Context as the Pharo folks have already done.
