Hi !
I'm a new smalltalk user. And I'm interested in using squeak on my pda. I use the WinCE version of the Squeak VM that is on hoshima's page (thanks): SqueakVM-alpha6-030206-PPC2002-ARM.zip http://www.is.titech.ac.jp/%7Eohshima/squeak/WinCE/030206/SqueakVM-alpha6-030206-PPC2002-ARM.zip
I've heard there was a problem when trying to use a large image like the full 3.7. So I've downloaded the sources of the VM at http://www.is.titech.ac.jp/%7Eohshima/squeak/WinCE/030206/Squeak3.1alpha6-03...
But I didn't achieve the compilation. My goal is to change de max allocated memory, in the file sqWinCeMem.c there is :
// I've never seen it managed to get more than 13MB memory. memSize = min(memSize, (12*1024*1024));
So if anyone succeed in compiling the VM, tell me how to do so, in order to use large image files.
Thanks.

I compiled Yoshiki's VM a year or two ago. The trick is to get the right version of Microsoft's embedded VisualStudio. I think you want version three, it's definately the one that matches WinCE 2002 not the latest that you need to compile it.
The VisualStudio debugger will not work with modern handhelds. It doesn't work with my iPAQ2200 running WinCE 2003. But if you copy the binaries across manually they will run.
Newer VisualStudio versions will debug on the device. I guess you could upgrade the source to build. I just made the changes I needed.
There is a 3.7 VM for WinCE but I haven't used it. Googling may help.

Speaking of which, what PDA platforms is Squeak available on?
I have a project that may require Palm, WinCE/PocketPC and Blackberry clients.
It'd be cool to be able to use Squeak as the platform.
