Squeak 3.1beta and 3.2 alpha

Hi, There are now 3.1beta and 3.2alpha directories on the ftp site. The 3.2alpha directory has Squeak3.2a-4461.zip, thanks to Henrik. Give them a whirl and I can fix things. cheers bruce

where are the latest plugin sources?

In my never ending battle with the plugin, I've hard coded more memory into my vm, renamed it and plopped it into the .netscape directory. (I didn't symlink as I want to keep the other vm for "real" Squeak). This works (sort of), but the image I'm using http://www.squeakland.org/installers/SqueakPlugin.image.gz won't allow a red button menu to be produced. I strongly suspect that this image was produced using a different glibc to the one I have (if so, it's _very_ naughty not to have labelled it) and the chances of something with a different glibc version actually running on a system with a different one are pretty remote (maybe even never). So, can anyone point me to the latest sources? [ENH] Make any set of Morphs (really) modal.

The ModalEnforcerMorph gives the ability to make any set of Morphs (and their submorphs) be modal to the rest of the World. Improves on the standard scheme for doing modality in a variety of ways. Most importantly, only the modal morphs can recieve mouse and keyboard events, so you can't click on another system window and bring it in front of a modal morph that is hogging the keyboard. A ModalDialog subclass of SystemWindow is provided, with some example dialogs (message, confirm, yes/no/cancel). [ENH] ConfigFile -- wrapper for Windows ini style config files

This changeset adds a class called ConfigFile that is a wrapper for Windows ini-style config files. Makes it very easy to read values from and write values to config files. Access of values from the config file is very fast. [ENH] A few font related enhancements

Hi, Here are a few enhancements for working with fonts in Squeak. [Tested on the squeak image updated to #4441 available at ftp://st.cs.uiuc.edu/pub/Smalltalk/Squeak/.] TextStyleChange This is a simple file in that adds a TextAttribute subclass called TextStyleChange that enables applications to change the TextStyle on a run of text within a paragraph (instead of having to do it to the whole paragraph). To download go here: http://users.bestweb.net/~swerling/squeak/spsSqueakDocs.html#textStyleChange FontManager This changeset adds the ability to work with fonts that have not been installed into the Squeak image. You must keep a directory of StrikeFonts somewhere, and a file called fonts.ini in the Default directory. Useful if you wish to provide for your users a large number of useable fonts but do not wish those fonts installed in the image. To get FontManager and an example fonts dir and fonts.ini, go here: http://users.bestweb.net/~swerling/squeak/spsSqueakDocs.html#fontManager ChooseFontDialog This changeset provides a font dialog that looks like a "typical" font selector -- You choose the family, emphasis, and size, and it shows a preview. The fonts are only changed in the context you want them to be: when displaying Smalltalk code. While on the topic of MD5ing the message/header - please note that the protocols involved do not in any way guarantee that the bits I send will be the same bits you recieve - just that they'll have the same content. Just look at your mails headers, raw, and you'll see it's so. In fact, significant parts of the relevant RFCs deal with how different (old) mail gateways might choose to garble your messages and how compliant (new) clients and servers should protect themselves. A good starting point is RFCs 2045-49, describing MIME. So *maybe* MD5ing the contents, *after parsing and decoding* could work, but that's pretty ugly. Lex's changes make the thing very reasonable, even with 36,000 messages from the Squeak list over the last three years. Actually, I would even call it FAST. It would be prudent to wait a few weeks until the changes can be added and smoothed before moving you life's email into the new Celeste for the first time. Mike
