In http://ftp.squeak.org/various_images/SqueakLight/updatesTrunk/ I put some tentative .cs for convert 3.10 to 3.11 as you see in http://www.morphle.com/~edgar/Don%27t%20try%20this%20at%20home.mov I also try to put a ready to work Squeak3.11alpha.7164.zip but upload today seems veeeery slooooow, if do not complete in half a hour I try again tomorrow. This week end I try to see how made some like ReleaseBuilderFor3dot11 new updatePackages: 'Kernel-dtl.187(edc.171).mcd Morphic-ar.131(edc.129).mcd MorphicExtras-auto.34(edc.33).mcd' This is similar to we have in 3.10, all is made in trunk and this fake .cs go to updates folder. Again I said for psychological reasons we need people see his number rises. So my proposal is each day we could "harvest" trunk and do some like the example above Edgar

Dictionary>>rehash is OK

After finding this problem in my "clean" Squeak 3.10.2 image I went back to the original image and found that in fact Dictionary>>rehash was in fact there. Sorry for wasting your time. In my own Squeak project I have a method Dictionary>>rehash. I don't remember why I wrote this method but I just noticed that Dictionary>>rehash is not in the original Squeak 3.10.2 code. Furthermore if used it should fail because it will inherit rehash from Set which doesn't work for Dictionaries. My Dictionary>>rehash method is like the one in Set except associationsDo: is used instead of do:. Is this a bug? What is the purpose of rehash anyway? Ralph Boland

Another idea

Folks - I wasn't participating much in discussions yesterday since I really wanted to get the closure bootstrap done. But maybe that was a good thing. One thing that I realized reading through the discussion is that it appears that some people are concerned what trunk development means for externally maintained packages. That is certainly a valid concern. However, I think it can be addressed straightforwardly, and maybe that's a basis for a compromise in going forward. How about this: Let's assume that any package that is "claimed" by an external maintainer, any changes done in trunk are guaranteed to be merged back into the maintainer's repository within a reasonable time frame (say, within one week). This would ensure that the version in trunk is never out of date with the master version for more than a week. This way, people can choose whether to be merely a consumer of that package (i.e., load the latest version of that package or use Bob to build an image of particular package versions) or whether they'd like to work together on a combination of packages via the trunk. As a consequence, nobody is forced into a model that they don't feel fit for, they can choose which model of development is right for them. In the end, we all can take advantage of progress happening in various areas and move Squeak forward together. Cheers, - Andreas

Preference #swapMouseButtons in Cuis?

The preference is there. I see it in the inspector which opens on World > help... > preferences... I canged it using an inspect, but it was not honoured. Any ideas why? Is it the preferred way to post bug reports to this list, by the way? A UI for setting the preferences would be great IMO. Cheers, Bernhard

Retiring the Announcements list

I created the Announcements mailing list almost four years ago with the goal of increasing the communication with those who have some interest in Squeak but are unwilling to monitor Squeak-dev. I expected that it would take some time for its use to become standard; but I'm ready to give up because it hasn't happened yet. In the past year there have been only 31 submissions to this list and most months there have only been 1 or 2. I haven't tried to count them but in that same time period there have been many more announcements that simply have not been sent to the announcements list. Ken

process-faithful debugging?

Hi All, does anyone have a neat hack to make Processor activeProcess answer what's expected in the context of the debugger? i.e. anyone made the Squeak debugger answer the process being debugger when Processor activeProcess is stepped over or through, rather than the debugger process, or made the debugger run as the process being debugged rather than its own?
