Clock ticker with Morphic

I'm trying to do something that should be very simple. I have a clock model that I want to tick over every second. Then I want to hand that model to a Morphic viewer to display. I initially set up a ticker process, based on some code in Mark Guzdial's Squeak&MMA book, section 4.2. It worked fine, except periodically morphic windows that were being updated would be trashed. So, figuring that I had an unfortunate timing issue between the Morphic updater and the asynch process, I changed my clock model to extend Morph and use the #step method to update the clock (which led to a crash documented on Mantis, but I was directed to a work-around). It now works fine, except the step method gets called once for every view I have open, as well as the intended one, so my clock goes up in increments of 2 or 3 seconds per second. My original thought was to have the ticker insert events into Morphic's event queue, but (a) I couldn't quite track it down, and (b) from what I found, it seemed to test the class of the events rather than simply dispatch them. At this particular point, I would actually prefer using a single Form for a web browser because of the proliferation of Squeak UIs. At least counting Morphic, MVC, and Tweak, and possibly also Brie and SeaSide, that makes several choices. I think that by using a Form as the main vehicle that it should be easy to bridge the gap to any or all of these for the display functions. The only difficulty that I see with this is the event-handling part of things, as that is very different for these UIs. I've posted a macintosh VM 3.8.9b5 The major changes are: The ability to specify an arbitrary image name or path to find an image at startup time via the plist.info. The ability to put plugins/bundles in the resource folder. The new feature that double-clicking on a image when 3.8.9b1 or higher is running will then launch another copy of the VM and open that image, versus opening a binary reader on the image. Fix for a full screen double on, save etc, where the window gets position at 0,0 and you can't move it. I've stuck the sit file on my idisk http://homepage.mac.com/johnmci/FileSharing.html or see the following ftp directory for the zip file. ftp://ftp.smalltalkconsulting.com/ 3.8.9b5 3.8.9b2,b3,b4 had limited distribution for testing sqMacExternalPrims.c Look for plugin bundles in the resource folder. This allows you to place bundles in the resource folder, now Squeak will look for a plugin in the "Plugins" folder, the root folder where the app is, and lastly the resource folder in the app. This enables you to customize a VM with the right set of plugins for your vertical application. sqMacFileLogic.c When converting a HFS path to a posix path we need a few more checks to avoid problems with bogus file names Fixes crash in CFURLCreateCopyDeletingLastPathComponent, via quicklyMakePath() sqMacMain.c Add logic to allow you to specify foobar.toobar as Squeak.image, or anything else you decide This is done via the plist SqueakImageName = Squeak.image Were we first look in the Resource folder in the app. If not found we then look for it as a path name which could be: (partial, tilda based, or full) foobar.toobar ~/Documents/Squeak/foobar.thing /HardDisk/User/Foo/Documents/ Squeak/foobar.thing sqMacTime.c use #define for MillisecondClockMask sqMacUIAppleEvents.c use plist info (SqueakImageName) as short image name. sqMacUIEvents.c use #define for MillisecondClockMask sqMacUnixCommandLineInterface.c command line help should say Squeak.image versus squeak.image 3.8.9b1 sqMacWindow.c Altered ioFullScreen logic to avoid problems if you do full screen on twice or more, then full screen off. Bug was the window would be positioned at 0 & 0 and you could not grab it in order to move it. sqMacUIAppleEvents.c Add logic to launch new shell script via apple script to startup same executable with image on an open doc request. Re: fixing underscores

Hello all, Please count me among those who want to see _ when I type _. My biggest reason for it is database code that uses underscores in field names that become selectors, but I could go on with less critical uses. One could always add editor features to insert := on any single key input, and to take out := when backing over "the" =, giving single-key assigment for those who thrive on it. Rendering a proper back arrow via unicode is no doubt a good permanent solution. Hoping for a fix. Happy Squeaking! Bill Wilhelm K. Hi John, after a quick look using the "code-file browser" of Squeak's FileList it looks like both *.st files seem to contain only code for a smalltalk browser, change file stuff and writers (VW, IBMSmalltalkClassWriter, ...) but no code for the Squeak "internet browser". Did I miss something? Bye Torsten

[ANN] Sokoban (0.2.4 & 0.3.4)

There are two updated versions of Sokoban available from SqueakMap at http://map1.squeakfoundation.org/sm/package/1e5bb5b3-0114-4888-be6e-095d822…. While the functionality of both versions is the same, their implementation differ: [0.2.4] is more structured, [0.3.4] looks simpler. Enjoy, Robert

And thank you, Simon, for the jumpstart! I just tried a quick little session to see how much might be involved in getting Jon's MediaView to work. Here's where I got to. I don't claim that any of this is the best way or even a good way to do this. 1. After doing Simon's changes above, I loaded the URI package from SqueakMap and started changing MediaView code like "URL fromString:" to "URI fromString:". I didn't get them all yet. 2. I commented out the ": 200" part of the HTMLCache>>initializeCacheAccessSemaphore method, and did the same thing for the similar method dealing with Cookies. 3. Then an error about the LayoutColumns class came up. I noticed a LayoutRows reference in some of the code too. I'm sure someone can come up with a simple way around this, but I didn't see these classes in the code browser fileOuts that Jon originally made available, or in versions 3.2 or 2.2 of Squeak, so I'm not sure where they might have come from. At this point it occurs to me that making this project work is probably not a really simple task, so it would probably be best to organize it so that the efforts of multiple interested parties can be put to best use. Hi guys I received today the Tshirt "Squeak Logo Fitted T-Shirt". The quality is not excellent but ok. So I set up the prices so that squeakFoundation make little money around 3$ per Tshirt. If there is a problem please let me know... But for now have fun... Soon the coffee mug :) Stef
