Hi folks! Ok, the idea is that the *primary* URLs for downloading Squeak are now: ftp://ftp.squeak.org http://ftp.squeak.org (added that this morning) ...we should of course update Swiki and every other place we can think of. about 3.9alpha

hi all we have been working with alex trying to get 3.9 alpha been able to load from 3.8 final. We are nearly there. If you want to try you should for now start from 3.8 final set the version to 3.9alpha and upgrade. I would like to see how we can manage gradually the image via MC so may be we will have several back and worth into the update streams. People willing to help are welcome. Stef

Beware, squeak.org repointed!

Hi all! With the help of Dan we now have simpler control over squeak.org! Dan still owns the domain but it is now pointed at nameservers on zoneedit.com where I (Goran) have an account and can edit the domain in full using a simple web UI. I have started with repointing squeak.org and www.squeak.org to box1.squeakfoundation.org (our community paid server) and hopefully our VirtualHost setup there will catch it and it will look just as before - we have already mirrored over the content. These changes may cause down periods - it seems some areas of Internet are seeing the change of nameservers, but Zoneedit hasn't seen it yet. Anyway, if www.squeak.org is down for you I apologize and hopefully it will be available as soon as the DNS information has spread in full. regards, Göran

antialiasing for rotated text/string morphs

greetings, i have run across an issue with TextMorphs and StringMorphs when they are using a font that performs antialiasing (e.g., ComicSansMS). When rotated, they are no longer antialiased. although i have been doing this programmatically, it can be reproduced using a TextMorph from the supplies flap and then rotating it using the halos. as a workaround, i have found that a embedding the TextMorph into another morph (e.g., RectangleMorph) alleviates the problem. i did a little snooping around, but couldn't really make much progress on understanding why this happens (although i suspect it may be related to the TransformationMorph that gets inserted into the hierarchy above the morph when it is rotated). is there a better approach to this? Squeak on Google Video

Hi, As a first test, there are now two Squeaky videos on Google Video: http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=Marcus+Denker&btnG=Search+Video (a short Seaside Demo by Stef and a half-hour demo I did at EuroKo03 (my demos have improved since then...) Nothing great, this was more for testing. More to come. Marcus

Newbie questions

Hi all, I just started with Squeak and SmallTalk and am enjoying programming in it for the first time in a long time. I have a couple of newbie questions, though that I have not found adequate answers for elsewhere. 1) What is the significance of the use of >> in many of your emails? Is this a SmallTalkism that I missed somewhere or is this a convention used to tie a Class name and a method name together in discussions? 2) How do I run Squeak in a non-ui mode? I have seen a few items talking about -headless on the command line. Is that all there is to it? Thanx, joe P.S. Imagine my surprise when, on my first day on the list, the ANN of a new leadership and all the followup mail hits me. Man, didn't know what to think about that. Fortunately (?) I am way to uninformed to converse on that topic intelligently and only hope that the best thing for the community and for Squeak comes out of it. :-)

[Q] Win XP VM Icon

Hello all, Is there a simple way to change the icon for the VM that is displayed while running? This is for deployment, with a renamed VM and ini file specifying the image. I thought there might me an ini setting to specify it, but I didn't see it on the wiki page dealing with the .ini file on windows... Any ideas? Brian
