Documentation for unix VM source / writing plugins?

Hi, I'm wanting to write a proper 'plugin' instead of using the FFI for my D-Bus stuff. Looking at the sources for Sockets etc., it would seem I need to use aio.h in platforms/unix/vm/, and then squeak will watch my file-descriptors for me. Is this correct? More generally, is there documentation (other than source code :) for how things work at the C-level? thanks, Daniel Faken

Reading a stream.

Hi. I'm trying to read data from a stream connected to a socket. I can write without any problem but though the read doesn't work. Here's a snippet of code : ________________________________________________ ________________________________________________ | elements result | elements := XMLDOMParser parseDocumentFrom: socketStream. result := ((((elements elements at: 1) elements at: 1) elements at: 1) elements at: 1) asString. ^ result ________________________________________________ ________________________________________________ It seems the nextEntity method of the socket stream always returns nil. I don't really get what the true problem is but since I've tried with two different clients in differents languages and both keep hanging, I think the problem rather comes from the server. [BUG][FIX] Squeak 3.8 TextMorph does not implement selectFrom:to: sent from TextMorphEditor

Bring up a text morph in 3.8 and try to change the font. You should get attached walkback. I fixed this by changing receiver of selectFrom:to: (in TextMorphEditor>>changeStyle) from the TextMorph to the TextMorphEditor itself. I have no idea if this is consistent with the intent of the morph/editor design but it works. SqueakMap and Squeak People Passwords

I hate to email the list about this, but I'm getting a bit desperate. I lost my passwords to both Squeak People and SqueakMap due to a bad hard disk backup, and have been unable to figure out who to contact. SqueakMap does let you generate a temporary random password, but the emails I've received don't actually have a temporary password in them, which is rather frustrating. Runtime Traits?

Hi all, please forgive me if this betrays a terrible level of ignorance on my part, but I think there is benefit to be had in runtime traits injection, to coin a phrase. I am writing software to enable back testing of stock trading strategies. Each strategy makes use of a selection of technical indicators, and each strategies combination of stratgies is usually different. I am writing the technical indicators as traits, which layer over a simple Tick class that has open, high, low, close and volume accessors to represent the stock data. I would prefer to inject the relevant traits as required by the individual strategy, instead of rolling all the traits into one class. I'd just like to know what others think of traits being a compile time thing. And whether there might be value in mixing them in at runtime. I am also dimly aware of the potential for there being little different between compile time and runtime in smalltalk. Thanks for listening. Mike.

Where are system globals (Smalltalk and SystemOrganization)

Are Smalltalk and SystemOrganization "global variables". If so where are the system globals and how do I list them, within a browser and say to the Transaction window from the workspace ? Aaron
