How does text display take place

Hi, I have been looking at DisplayText, Paragraph, TextStyle, Text classes but haven't so far been able to locate the method that does the real display, i.e. take the bitmap from the font for a character, put it somewhere, take the next put it somewhere. Could you tell me if I am not looking at the right places or I have missed some method. If you remember having seen tutorial or book chapter that gives the big picture, that would also be helpful. I am trying to show Telugu ( a left to write script, that requires script shaping )text in Squeak using the Operating System support with FFI-Examples-Win32's classes. I would be grateful for some pointers and/or suggestions. Thank You, Himanshu.

Weather station alive ? World Stethoscope alive ?

Hi, I would like to know if these projects are still alive ? We are studying possibilities to connect Squeak with sensors (through I2C protocols) and for the moment, I know only one projet (World Stethoscope http://nedkonz.dhs.org:8080/Ned/46). I found the code of World Stethoscope but not those of Weather Station (think it's proprietary maybe = code lost). So to avoid dissipating energy, I would like to know if someone knows such projects where code is available ? Thanks at all ! The page could really use an editor, though. Wiki-style is great for accumulating information, but that doesn't remove the need for someone to take all this material and arrange it in a readable fashion. Right now, it is a long list of all sorts of information. So if someone wants to help out, then dive in! If the politics worry you, then make Joe's New Cookbook on its own page instead of hacking the current cookbook page. Same goes for the FAQ, by the way -- it is not bad, but it seems a little scattered. -Lex

Good question. What is the most recent port of Squeak? This used to be a serious bragging point of Squeak. It used to run bit-for-bit identically on more platforms than Java did despite Java having a head start. The reason for this was that Squeak had a simple VM that could be ported in days (for a basic port) or weeks (for all the goodies like sound, sockets, etc.). What's the state nowadays? Who has ported Squeak recently, and how long did it take? Can we still brag about this? -Lex

Plug-in to access HID devices on Mac OS X

This plug-in is a wrapper for the Apple's HID Utilities library and offers a low level access to any device that supports the Human Interface Devices specifications, like joysticks, graphic tablets, car wheels and remote controls. The source is available on SqueakSource [1] as well as a compiled version for the Carbon VM [2]. Please read my Squeak-related weblog [3] for more details. Some parts of the API are still in flux (no constants, no event queue) and there is a risk of a resource-access conflict with the latest releases of the VM (which also contains a copy of the same library). Your comments and contribution are welcomed.
