Someone out there informed me that they've had some stability problems with the 3.2.5 mac VM on system 8.x.
a) It's nice that they called. (feedback is always good). b) It's a surprise to me.
So I need some feedback on 3.2.5 or 3.2.6 mac classic VM usage and if people are experiencing lockups or issues with loss of keyboard input after running squeak for some hours.
Although the os-x version of the Squeak VM is quite different inside, the classic version of squeak if you are running OS 9.1 or lower shouldn't have changed much beyond the code reorganization and a wee bit of code cleanup (usually that type of work introduces issues of course).
So if you'be been running a classic Mac VM and having issues, please let me know.
hi all,
The list foundation is quite empty in this moment. I would like to know a bit if the foundation is making progress from its infrastructure point of view as a self organizing entity or if we are all waiting that Dan does something. I imagine that Dan has only day of 24 hours like any of us, so if we really to see something happening we might need to wake up a bit.
I know by experience that people always have wonderful ideas but they like that others do them.

Isn't it just? Even I haven't got around to the second reports on the VI4 and VM Building projects yet. Will do very soon, promise. Of course, no other porject seems to have even issued the first reports, so by the rules Dan promulgated they are all in danger of officially dying... as is the entire idea of a foundation at this rate.

Writing up a report for the Harvesters project is actually #3 or so on my list of Squeak-related things to do, so I'll get it soon, I promise. :)
(Although the Harvesters project already has a visible output of sorts, so in that sense a bi-monthly report might not be as important as with some other projects. But it's still probably useful.)

I've been trying three times to get Dan and Andrew to give me an update of the legal issues, to no avail - either I don't get an answer, or "too busy right now, I'll be back...".
So I've turned my attention to Europe for now, where local Squeak communities are starting up - in Germany they're close to founding the Squeak e.V. (eingetragene Verein, dunnow what the US variant of a not-for-profit association is), a bylaws proposal is up, and I think in the coming weeks (but surely before I get an answer from Dan and Andrew) we'll see this German body instituted. Talks are already underway to broaden the scope of this community to Europe, and I think we might just as well include the US in that :-)
hi Cees
I would really like to be in contact with some nordic people using Smalltalk. Have you any contact? Goran it would be nice to have a Swedish Smalltalk User Group. The main idea is to start small and have fun.

Well, from your point-of-view the Netherlands is Nordic of course ;-), but no, I don't count a lot of Normans and Vikings under my acquaintances, except of course for the well-known people here on the list.

Hi, guys (and all) -
Well, it's true that I have been other-focused for a while, but with regard to the legal issues, I would not have much to contribute, other than a whip.
Let's ping Andrew one more time (Hello, Andrew??) and get him to say
1. What he sees as the path we should follow
2. If he's willing to help
3. Under what conditions he would like to be "retained"
4. If so, what he sees as a reasonable schedule
5. If not, a recommendation for how to find the right person
Regarding my own distractions, I am feeling a bit more able to contribute some time now, so you may consider me still worth a try on issues where I can contribute.
