This process should be as easy and fast as possible. The truth is that Luciano is doing all the work in NetSqueak. And yes, he's doing lots of tests (lots and interesting). Let me copy here he's last commit log to http://www.squeaksource.com/Net.html. For every thing he does, he does tests. The last thing he implemented for testing is the RealisticLoopback InternalNetworkDevice. A subclass of Loopback which implements drops, corruption and delays. To test how the stack behaves in this cases. On the other side, for SqueakNOS I'm not writing no tests. I don't know yet if this is good enough, but I had to do this change because I needed to start and stop timers (TCP, IP reassembly and ARP timers), and the same object that understands #up and #down (the interface) and manages the process that handles incomming packets seems to be the right object to start and stop timers. All processes that are required for the networking stack are started and stopped sending #up and #down to the network interface.

Download: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=3891&package_id=3865 swiki: http://minnow.cc.gatech.edu/squeak/1762 This release includes two NetworkingDevices: LancePCIDevice and Realtek8139PCIDevice, the former implementing support, at least, for VMWare virtual cards, and the latter for a very common real network card. We have partially integrated NetSqueak (http://www.squeaksource.com/Net.html), which gives SqueakNOS support for most of the TCP/IP protocol suite, including basic, but working, TCP. The native part has changed a little bit too, specially a bug fix to allow bigger images to be booted (27MB was the old limit, now phisical memory should be it). Also the timer interrupt frequency is increased to 2KHz and ioRelinquishProcessor... effectively halts ('hlt') the processor. This decreases the power consumption, and introduced a few interactivity glitches that we should solve. gera

As I said, Luciano has put a lot of work into his NetSqueak stuff lately, and he has something that's working now. With this I mean that SqueakNOS can now, for example, answer ARP requests and ICMP requests as before, but can also: "setup" Computer current networkingStack: (EthernetStack on: Computer current defaultNetworkInterface). Computer current networkingStack internetAddress: (InternetAddress fromString: '192.168.247.128'). Computer current networkingStack interface up. tcp := Computer current networkingStack ip tcp. "now go out and telnet to this port" strm nextPutAll: 'hola amigo!'; flush. strm nextAvailable "connect" strm := tcp connectTo: (InternetAddress fromString: '192.168.247.1') port: 80. strm nextPutAll: 'GET / HTTP/1.0'; cr; cr; flush. strm nextAvailable (although "cr" will not work. Not sure, haven't reallt tested much) ----- Then, I also found a problem with the .image size SqueakNOS can handle, and fixed it. So stay tunned for a new .iso release soon. gera

Net-gera.11: fixed checksum calculations

This two are the same except when the card returns the padding bytes after the ethernet packet as part of the packet. This happens on Lance card for packets with legnth < 60. IPPacket length is the header field, so it's always correct.

Hi all, I'm re-sending this message because I didn't see it in the list archives (I think I'm having some king of trouble with my smtp server). Pablo.- Hi Gera, In spite of the fact I'm just following the advance of the project reading the mails posted to the list, it's nice to see the details of how sqNOS moving forward. I see these posts like small pieces of the documentation. As you said in a previous message you could boot the image without vmware; do you have plans of some kind of integration with Croquek? Keep doing this, great work!
