If you want to do that, you'll have to link all the .o files and leave them together in a file suitable for the bootloader. I guess MacOS X' bootloader would take Mach-O, but I can't tell for sure. You could also find information on how to generate .efi file, which I think is what EFI bootloaders can boot. Oh! of course! you should not need to rebuild the kernel to rebuild the ISO image, and in fact, you should not need to rebuild the ISO image at all to test a new image. However, nothings ready to rebuild an ISO without recompiling... but, take a look at boot/Makefile, specially at the command mkisofs. That's what you need to run, and everything should be setup to run it. I think you'll have to run it from boot (NOT boot/iso.template/...) let me know how it goes! richie

VMWare appliacen released

I've just released yet one more version of the same ESUG presentation. This time it's a *VMWare Appliance* that you should be able to use with the free VMWare Player (http://www.vmware.com/products/player/) Using the VMWare disk mount utility (http://www.vmware.com/download/eula/diskmount_ws_v55.html), or directly from VMWare Workstation (if you own it), or in Linux using vmware-mount.pl, you can mount the included virtual disk, change the .image file, and reboot. This is currently the easiest and fastest way to test your modified bootable Squeak images. Enjoy! and please share your experience! richie

SqueakNOS @ ESUG & SqueakNOS @ OLPC

hi! you may be surprised to get an email on this list after, may be, two years, but there's been some news in the SqueakNOS front... I hope you are still interested. On one side, we've presented at ESUG 2008 (http://www.esug.org/Conferences/2008/) they've asked me the presentation material, but it's not still online. In any case, it was a bootable presentation, which you can download from the normal source (follow links from: http://people.squeakfoundation.org/person/gera/). Another very interesting news, is that at the ESUG conference we've got our hands in an OLPC, and we've managed to boot SqueakNOS on the OLPC (with help from Mitch Bradley). This has also been released, and can be downloaded following the previous link. The people at the conference where very interested in the project, and this is a big help and may boost the project a little bit forward. Hopefully we'll get some time to work on more stuff, we are currently trying to have USB and SD card support, what we'll put us a little step closer to persistency. Let's see where this new energy wave takes us :) richie

hi there, I've recently installed the current squeaknos from source forge, and i think it's pretty cool, and i like to contribute to the project, i've seen mouse doesn't work pretty well i'd like to work on that. but i don't kown where to start i've been reading about eventSensor and HandMorph and looking at the classes from squeaknos (OldPCKeyboard) but cant figure out what's going on, i think i could start by this or anything else that i could do. Just looking for something to contribute... -- Gonzalo, Romano

can't get the mouse to work

hi got it running but can't get mouse to work don't konw what's going on, i get a debugger on setStandardNetwork or something like that, message not understood, but nothing n the mouse, in the transcript seems to detect it just right thanks -- Gonzalo, Romano

All, The Squeak WebTeam is providing a place to describe and access commonly used images created by users. If you have an image that you believe others would like to use (a good example is the v3.9 developers image), please let us know and we will include the description and link location on the "download" page of the squeak.org web site. We are also offering to store your image on the ftp.squeak.org site, but it is not mandatory (you can keep your own location to save squeak.org space and WebTeam labor.) If you would like to donate your image, return the following information to: webteam(a)lists.squeakfoundation.org ----- Image Name: <The name that represents the image> Creator: <Who developed the image> Description of Image: <Include the contents of the image, how it might be used, who would benefit from it's use, etc.> Image Base: <the version used to create this image, e.g. 3.8-6665> Image Filename: <the name of the image> Image full URL: <The full path to the latest .image file or directory. This release was reorganized for a clearer distribution and to be in synch with the article "SqueakNOS: Building, changing, booting and installing." <http://people.squeakfoundation.org/article/61.html>. It also has Lance and Realtek8139 network cards initialization by default, as well as TCP/IP stack initialization, except for setting up the IP address, which should be done from the Workspace. gera
