Hi, thanks for great games :-) I have one suggestion: make the games resist being picked up. You can do that with the halo menu. When the game is accidentally attached to the mouse it can be quite confusing and make gameplay no fun.

Thanks! We will update the games a bit at a time.
By the way we released a new game. This time it is Funtowers, a game in which the player has to combine related cards in a given time. Try it out, you can download it here: http://www.swa.hpi.uni-potsdam.de/ projects/olpc/
Have fun! Robert

Robert,
It is really nice to see these games examples. On top of theirs entertaining effects, they can be interesting source of inspiration for the kids to learn about programming. Not to mention the live nature of the underneath Smalltalk environment make it fun to experiment while the game is running. See attached pictures.

Sure :) You might want to patch in a new icon afterwards etc., but to get started it is nice. Also if you have an activity you can put it at
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Activities
where it gets much more visibility and is available from xo-get:

Btw Bert, can you recall us of to save as an .xo file. I don't find it.

Hi, Bert
Translations have been populated for DrGeoII and original SAR version includes POs. Please consider http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/5546 and generate launcher script by your packager with specifying MO location, so that DrGeoII.xo can be translated? I have already experimented it, but it needs both stuff to be used widely. Let me know if it needs improvement...

Strangely the .xo file type is not reconignised by the browser... I don't see how a kid is supposed to easily install XO package. (my OLPC is with the last stable firmware and image). I do not talk about going in the terminal and wget ...

Hi, Hilaire, If you are placing .xo on your local server, how about mime settings on web server? see http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/5604 and http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/6033
Does downloading .xo file attached to mail message in gmail activity (also using browser) work for you?

The icon does not have to be white on black, but you have to use the fill_color and stroke_color entities to make it colorable by Sugar:

We'll have to think about saving and loading. Currently when resuming a saved DrGeo drawing, it will load both the original DrGeo project and the saved one ... I also got a syntax error when resuming a saved project.
I think we need a better theory separating the "base app" (the code that gets loaded) and the current project. Perhaps the .xo should contain both a .st for the code and a .pr for the initial project ... that would mean when saving the project it would not have to save out the code. On loading we would have to distinguish between resuming an old project and starting a new activity instance, loading either the project in the bundle or the one from the datastore. For that I think we would have to pass the bundled project via the "URI" parameter, and it would get ignored if an OBJECT_ID is present.
Does anybody understand what I'm talking about? ;)

Ok, I will update later. I really don't have time to browse tens of page to see which version is latest, etc...
Thanks for the tips on icon. I did not find it.

Loading/saving DrGeo project work from the XO, but slow, more than 1 min.
Btw, the geode seems fast enough to crunch compliacted figure with several hundreds of geometric object.

In that case this means two time slower. I did not feel the loading time was slower than usual. Are you sure ?

And we need to modify semantics of "--document" parameter or invent new one so that *.st will be preloaded, right? tricky anyway...

Well, --document gets loaded by ProjectLauncher, whereas URI is loaded by SugarLauncher (both are active in the etoys image). So if we can assure that AutoStart processes ProjectLauncher before SugarLauncher, this should work. But adding yet another parameter for "preloading" might be cleaner.

I am curious how we will be able to keep project interoperability especially for DrGeoII between OLPC Etoys and Squeakland OLPC if we separate them.
And by separating, also dependency would be introduced. Then we might want to manage it wisely. For instances: + add dependency description to manifest in gzipped .pr so that user can review it when encounter problem. + newer "base app" could check dependency hint embedded in project and migrate the project if it is based on older app.

As far as I know, DrGeo is normally used with a custom image - right, Hilaire? The project simply assumes the .SAR with the DrGeo code has been loaded already. So the situation would not be too different.
- Bert -
Frankly, I mostly dropped DrGeo until I got manifestion of interest from several places and I never distribute it in image, only for my own experiment in high school. It is José who did the SAR file packed with the .po files. But soon, I will do a distribution image based, I will have to use the etoys if I want the languages. BTW, are you planing for a new squeakland image, OLPC Etoys based, it will make life easier for that later plan?

You need to correctly define the mime-type in the web server, at least until Firefox does guessing in the browser (maybe someday...).

Sure :) You might want to patch in a new icon afterwards etc., but to get started it is nice. Also if you have an activity you can put it at

where it gets much more visibility and is available from xo-get:

I got the problem when installing Activities from OLPC wiki, I can't tell if the cause is the same, I only tried on one activities. However after update to update.1, installing .xo archive from browse worked from my web server unaware of xo mime type.
