Good. I'm also cc'ing the box admins - anyone of us can help in the transfer.
Shall we first announce it on squeak-dev? It probably means that we want to lock the swiki for a couple of hours while we are transferring it, might be polite to tell the community that beforehand.
[box-admins: this is about moving the Squeak Swiki at Gatech over to box2].

Cees

Je77, can you work with Cees to move the Squeak Swiki to box2?
Thanks! Mark

Hi Mark,
I'm not sure what the focus is for your group at the moment and whether running the Swiki poses any administrative loads. As you may know, box2 has been setup for the Squeak community in the broadest sense, and we currently have a nice team of volunteers managing everything. Money seems to be available as well, so it looks like this is a long-term thing :)
Anyway, in case you're wondering whether it's a good idea to keep this Swiki up-and-running on minnow - we'd be more than happy to take over from you.

Cees
OK. I'm not ignoring people. I'm just busy. Let's plan on something like this:
At some point soon, I will release the new version of ComSwiki. Shortly thereafter, let's move the Squeak swiki. Currently, minnow is running a beta version of the new release.
We'll lock down the swiki, transfer it, have it back up and running, and then I'll convert the minnow site to a forward swiki.
Before that is to happen, you may want to make sure that you have everything ready to go. In particular, make sure that the URL is one you want for the future.
Peace and Luck!

Sounds like a good plan :). The forward swiki will just spit out 301 redirects?
As for the URL, good suggestion to start discussing this thing now. I think swiki.squeak.org/squeak would be the most logical thing to do. Alternatvely www.squeak.org/swiki? box admins, what do you think?

Cees
Couldn't we just have http://swiki.squeak.org/ and avoid having to remember the extra path?
Or maybe http://wiki.squeak.org/ would be better since I'm not sure it's all that relevant to most people exactly what wiki implementation is being used. I mean, it shouldn't be necessary to remember it.

That gets problematic if we want to host more swikis...

Hey, we're using swiki and we're damn proud of it! ;)
(ok, the serious answer: I couldn't care less)

I guess you mean more swikis within the same swiki instance? I have to admit I've not used Swiki so don't know much about that and you may have a point there.
On the other hand if the other swiki's use seperate instances it seems to me that this is 'the Squeak wiki' and deserves the best official name we can come up with for it and the others would have more appropriate hostnames depending on the subject.
Also it occurs to me, even if the issue is in having multiple swikis in a single instance can't we use proxying to sort that out and give each one a full hostname?

Where do we stand on this, Cees? Do you folks plan to set up a Swiki server and take over the Squeak Swiki?

Very much so. The last word was from "your end" - Jochen needed some time to setup redirection, so we're waiting for that.
When that has been done, I think it's just easiest if we get the image + squeak directory, then we can upgrade etcetera at leisure.

The biggest problem on my end is that I need to be able to get the data to you. We are talking about something like 10Gb. Would it be possible for you to set up an sftp site on your end to receive the data? I'd also need to know the URL to forward people to and a date for doing the move. I'm most available on Thursday and the weekend.
Peace and Luck!

Peanuts ;-). Send me your ssh key and I'll setup an account.

Ken - your memory is better than mine. What was the URL we agreed on for the Squeak Swiki under squeak.org?
As far as I'm concerned, you lock the Swiki for updates (with an announcement on squeak-dev) whenever you're ready, send over the data, we set it up on our side and when that runs, you install the forwarding. It's not too critical if the whole process takes a couple of days - people should be able to wait with their updates for that long.

Cees

Well, I'm not sure 'agreed' is quite the correct word. In my usual way I just kept hammering on the same note and finally you replied:

I still prefer this myself as somewhat of a standard wiki url among the community (although you do also see http://domain.tld/wiki/ ). But... ;)

You see, we agreed :-)
Jochen: wiki.squeak.org it'll be.
Was there ever any progress made on this?
How much time do we have left until minnow is history? Any?

None that I'm aware of - I sent Jochen a login in January, but haven't heard back since about any progress...

Yes. I received the login. I've been a bit busy. We have a new server that just arrived. As we move content onto that server, I'll move the squeak swiki as well.
Peace and Luck!
