Ways to extends OB-Standard

Hi, I'm working on two packages, each currently overriding an existing method. Is there a solution to avoid this ? First Case : DynamicProtocols. It overrides OBCodeBrowser>>addTo:class:comment:metaclass: adding a call to the following method at the end: DynamicProtocols>>installDPOnClass: class metaClass: metaclass method: method "Install our dynamic protocol system in OmniBrowser" | protocols | protocols := OBMetaNode named: 'DynamicProtocols'. class childAt: #dynamicProtocols put: protocols. metaclass childAt: #dynamicProtocols put: protocols. protocols childAt: #methods put: method; addActor: (OBNodeActor onNodeClass: OBMethodCategoryNode) (not sure if what I do is correct). Second Case : FileOutClasses. This package just want to add 2 entries in the action menu for classes, methods and protocols. I may be able to use services or prefix a method with 'svc' as I read through your comments. Can you explain me what are the best solutions please ? Bye -- Damien Cassou

Hello Göran, I just loaded your 202 version and in the history you mentioned you included my Process creation UI. Just as a note, IMHO it does no harm if my assumptions about where to get users and admins from are correct. For convenience I add it here and I can try to cook up something early tomorrow, if you correct my assumptions. Test swish-e functionality

Hi Göran, now I am pack the MacOs version together. How to test GraphViz is clear ;-) but how can I make a short test to see if swish-e really works ? Regards Hans

Greetings folks, I'm saying hello and signing on to help with Gjallar. I just caught up on the SETools list and see a few things I could try to do... 1. I'm going to work on is getting the MacOS X stuff working (swish-e and graphviz). 2. Is the CSS issue with the left panel fixed? If not, I'll take a look. 3. Is there a plan for the User/Process creation components in Seaside yet? I can tackle those if there is a need. 4. I can help with documentation (I know LaTeX inside and out, if we go that way) 5. Other suggestions, needs? This will be fun, I've been dreaming about a tool like this for some time... Cheers! Brian

File Layout Gjallar

Hi Göran, if you now create a new gjallar release, perhaps we could think a little bit about the file structure. I would like to suggest that we use the layout of Squeak itself, which has all binary in "bin" subdirectory (and a macintosh subdir which would be the place for all mac bundles I created) Regards Hans

[ANN] Gjallar competition! (or "How to win an Ipod")

Hi fellow Squeakers! Ewa (my great boss) and I decided to spice up OOPSLA a bit with a small competition, but anyone can participate, not just Squeakers attending OOPSLA. The task: Write a nice useful enhancement to Gjallar. :) If you want to learn more about Gjallar, see http.//www.gjallar.se and feel free to ask on the squeak channel on IRC or on the setools mailinglist (please use that first and private email as a last resort). We are just about to make a new release but you should probably use the 0.2 release as the base, or feel free to use newer stuff, but then it is not "clearly defined" how to get a working setup. :) We will judge the contributions on how "nice" it is, (coolness, usefulness etc) and not by quantity of code. So a small but very useful contribution can very well win over a massive feature. Magnus and I will be supreme judges, but we will consult the other Gjallar developers. :) The deadline: Friday 2006-11-10, 18.00 CET. OmniBrowser Roadmap

Hi folks, I know there are a few people out there who are using OmniBrowser for their own projects and I thought I'd post here about the things I'm working on and where I'd like to see OB go in the near future. So here's a list of mini projects, arranged rough in order of short-term to long-term, though this ordering is by no means set in stone: Extensibility ---------------- One of the biggest problems in the current design is that it's quite difficult to create a package that extends the standard browsers. This stems from the way Actors/Actions are constructed, by a single #actions method on an actor, which is attached to the metagraph. It's impossible to either add actors to the metagraph or add actions to an actor without overriding methods in OB-Standard. In recent versions of OB, I've been gradually converting the functionality of Actors into what I'm calling Commands. (The code to date actually uses the name "services" but I'm about to do a grand renaming, as it's actually quite different from the services used in Squeak 3.9). To add a command, all you have to do is this: - subclass OBCommand, and implement at least #label, #isActive, and #execute. - add a method to a browser class with a selector that begins with 'svc' and returns your command class This should allow people to easily extend the standard browser with new commands. I haven't figured out a way to make metagraphs easily extensible, but I'm not sure that this is a real problem in practice. If you want to change the way browsers navigate, it creating a new browser probably isn't a bad idea anyway. Web Interface ------------------- Another project I've got going is to have a web-based UI for OmniBrowser. It's quite experimental, but promising. If it works out well, it could serve as a basis for other UIs like Tweak, and enable a single OB codebase to have the correct Morphic look on different versions of Squeak. Refactoring ---------------- Once all the existing functionality is converted to commands, I'd like to create refactoring commands. Removing Optional Buttons ------------------------------------- One of my goals for OmniBrowser 1.0 was to duplicate the functionality of the legacy browsers pretty much exactly, with only minor improvements around the edges, like the chasing browsers. For the next major release, I'd like to move beyond the legacy functionality, and do new stuff. Personally I find the optional buttons a waste of space and I'd like to get rid of them, so that the space can be used for more useful things. Search Bar --------------- VisualWorks and Dolphin both have areas where you can type a class name or selector and have the browser find it for you. It's really handy, we should have this in OB as well. Multiple Selection in Columns ---------------------------------------- This would allow commands to be applied to more than one node at a time, which would be very handy. Tabs in the Text Panel ------------------------------ This is another handy feature of VW - the ability to look at different representations of a method - source code, byte code, version history etc. Window Reduction -------------------------- OmniBrowser has some features to reduce the number of windows that get opened during normal development, but I still end up with lots and lots of windows that aren't in use. I'd like to experiment with different approaches to keep the number of stale windows to a minimum. This is enough work to keep me occupied for quite a while, but if anyone has other ideas or feature requests, I'd like to hear them. In particular, I'm wondering what to do about Actions. Should I leave the actions infrastructure in place so as not to break existing browsers? Should it be deprecated? Should we just migrate everything to commands and ditch actions? Colin

Hi, is OB-Standard 3.9 compatible ? There is although a OB-Standard.39 and buttons are grey and deactivated. Can I include OB-Standard in squeak-dev image ? Why are OBServices deactivated by default ? -- Damien Cassou

Hello, when I finally wanted to give a try to the morphic admin console, "Q2MorphicAdminConsole open" gave a DNU. In Q2V0.3-gk.196 (maybe 197) Q2SessionWithoutSeaside>>sharedModel was changed to return Q2Session sharedModel which does not exist anymore.
