Goran and all, Getting deeper in the Gjallar code, I have the following questions. Thanks for any help. Thierry 1- What is this method achieving? Q2CasesView > reCalculateIfNeeded "Recalculate if db has changed." txnMarker = self model txnMarker ifFalse: [ self calculate. txnMarker := self model txnMarker] 2- How could a message be displayed to the users that have been logged out because of timeout? 3 - Why is this called at user login? Why already returning a form? Q2User > tableCaseForm "Return the table form to use." self flag: #q2todo. ^self processes ifEmpty: [self model defaultTableCaseForm] ifNotEmpty: [self processes first tableCaseForms first] 4- Why does LeftPanel keep track of the viewed cases? (BTW, you can see an ongoing attempt on my side to display a list of users. Mostly copy/paste from the Case example). Q2Component subclass: #Q2LeftPanel instanceVariableNames: 'navigation quickJump casesSection viewCases formatter viewProcesses initialRequest viewUsers' classVariableNames: '' poolDictionaries: '' category: 'Q2-Seaside UI' 5- Could you explain the relationship between Q2ViewCases, Q2FilterPanel and Q2FilterViewer? I found that the Filter classes are dedicated to cases. Would it make sense to be able to 'filter' the existing users (by category, by process,...)? If yes, would ti make sense to reuse these classes?

Gjallar: Alt text positioning issue under Firefox

This is a relativley minor issue, although users might be annoyed by it. It might be an issue with Seaside and not with Gjallar. When I hover on top of some items (not all), like the Create Case tab, the alt text is significantly offset from the mouse location. Just to let you know... Thierry

Gjallar: UltraCleanImage problem

I am having a problem with my Gjallar image (0.3) that I am not sure to understand. The symptoms are that while performing a Q2Gjallar startServer I get the error: Q2Model instances hanging! Consider #ultraCleanImage This error is raised in Q2Gjallar class > cleanImage. After restarting the image without saving, I found 13 instances of Q2Model. After running Q2Gallar ultraCleanImage, there are 2 instances for Q2Model left and Squeak grabs all the CPU... Any insights about how to restore Gjallar would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Thierry

Gjallar: Stylesheets and scripts

In the category Q2-Libraries there are two classes related to Scripts and Stylesheets. How are they declared as application (WAApplication) libraries? I cannot find a reference to Q2StandardStyles. Thanks, Thierry

Gjallar seminar and developer meeting

Hi fellas! On the 15th March we will hold a breakfast seminar on Gjallar at Toolkit's office. It will consist of two parts - a thorough demo with most functionality hopefully covered and a subsequent discussion/Q&A-session about future plans and directions. > Could you explain these comments? Ron, the package browser is more a code-organization tool useful only for viewing and defining package boundaries. This is typically done at the first and last 5% of a development life-cycle. The rest of the time you really want browsers that allow you to focus on the _code_ model, like classes, their hierarchies, and cross-cutting message flows.

Gjallar: Form import

In Q2Model>loadSampleData there is the following line: p1 importForms: (forms last: 1). But there is few lines before: pr2 loadDevelopment. So the form created for development is imported in the support process? Thierry

Thanks you guys, after those dual endorsments I will definitely give it another try (it has been.. probably a year since I've tried OmniBrowser). I've always been a big fan of the idea of OmniBrowser; a simplified model, simplified menus (but not too simplified, I actually use quite a bit of the legacy functions!). I really have a lot to do than work on browser stuff, so I hope that OmniBrowser "just works". May I complain here if I have issues? :) I will try it! thanks..

Hi Thierry, indeed, the breadth and depth of all the Squeak projects and code out there is truly massive and intimidating. One thing that has helped me grok others code and my own is having improved the productivity of the tools for code exploration. The Hierachy Browser and Tracing Messages Browser have served me well for years for this. You can load Tracing Messages Browser from SqueakSource for 3.9 or SqueakMap for 3.8 or earlier. There are certainly other tools too, but the point is I've noticed how many new (and some veteran!) Squeakers have developed a habit of using only Package Browsers and then scrolling and clicking around in those to browse and edit code. And, sadly, this obsession with Package Browsers has gotten worse in 3.9 because you can't even make Hierarchy Browser the default anymore! Its really boggling at how difficult it is to simply focus on the *class-model* instead of always just the package-organization.. So I usually find 3.8 better for groking code (at least until I get time to fix up 3.9).. There is one other small enhancement that has, in my dev image, paid good dividends. "Code Editor Enhancements" on SqueakMap allow me to browse *from* anywhere I might be, *to* anywhere I could logically want to go from that place. Like, if I'm viewing a method, update: aCustomer, I can double-click the text, "aCustomer", press a hot key, and the Customer hierarchy opens up.. The idea is by being able to navigate quickly without having to hunt, scroll, click, click, scroll, and click, my train of thought is not disrupted and I digest code much more quickly. I think your idea about a skeleton application with base "user/role" functionality is a good one; seems like most applications have that doesn't it? Gjallar: extracting features

For the last few days I have been trying to understand the Gjallar code. I like the Seaside-Magma approach. As mentioned somewhere else the code base could serve as an example for other applications. Trying to catchup with all this code is quite overwhelming. >From my point of view, it would be great to see a subset of the application featuring just enought to have a user interface for the administrator role to login and create other users (different roles). The created users should be able to login/logout. This would be a great starting point to demonstrate several aspects including the Seaside-Magma approach. Most of the web applications I am interested in start with these features. Just some thoughts. Thierry
