Box-admins and Board are 'open' lists (was RE: homepage)

Chris C: If you have requested membership to box-admins I have received no notice and I find no pending request. Are you sure you tried to join the right list? Also, I want to remind everyone that both board(a)squeak.org and box-admins(a)lists.squeakfoundation.org are more or less open mailing lists. What I mean by this is that anyone who sends an email from an address that is subscribed to squeak-dev to either the board or box-admins will not be block, the list members will receive the email. This has been true for years now. So if you need to contact either group, just send the email, no need to be a list member. Chris C did email me privately and I've committed to getting the new website up. I can only budget so much time to this but I think I can finish it by the end of the week easily enough. Of course if someone else has a burning need to work on this I'm happy to explain my recommendations for how it be done and help. Ken

Build.squeak.org not working

I'm getting a proxy error at the moment at http://build.squeak.org/ . Before trying anything myself I thought I would check to see if you are aware of the issue and perhaps working on Jenkins currently. Ken

Of course many programs will have their own separate configuration files and I have to wonder if what you want to change can't be changed in a jenkins specific config file. But I double checked and /etc/default/jenkins is marked in the package as a configuration file meaning that upgrading the package won't simply stomp the file before asking. Ken

But here is how I'm finding the answer: So first of all I know we like to use DJB's daemontools sometimes which provides a way to start and maintain services. How does Jenkins start?

I see all too often that builds fail because the JVM process runs out of PermGen space. Up until today I'd assumed that was a problem on the build agents. However, today I bounced my Mac mini (latest victim of this problem) and... nothing happened. But when I bounced _Jenkins_ the build succeeded. Jenkins, being a Java process, does have a bunch of knobs that can be used to adjust GC. How does Jenkins get started? What keeps it running? Or, meta-question, how can I find this out for myself, and reduce the noise on the list? :) frank

Dan also indicated (separate email) that he would be happy to have someone else take over the responsibility for this (presumably in addition to you). Thanks Dave. Before we put it to rest, should we see about Box-Admins assuming responsibility for this in case we have an issue in the future? I called Network Solutions at 877.628.8686 and spoke with Deleen, who was kind enough to grant a 15 day service extension for SQUEAK.ORG. The domain names should come back on line in a couple of hours or so. I was not able to make payment on the account because Network Solutions requires that either Dan Ingalls or Goran Krampe contact them to confirm that this is a legitimate web site. Goran, if you would be able to call Network Solutions and confirm that SQUEAK.ORG is legitimate, that would be a big help. You do not need to make payment, just let them know that we are legitimate, then I or someone else will pay the bill. They have an international number at 1.570.708.8788 that should work for you. Thanks a lot! I do not have an email address for Dan handy, but if someone has the address, please let him know that Squeak is still alive and kicking, and if he can confirm as much to Network Solutions we would be grateful. We have 15 days to handle this now, so no panic.
