I need some more information to get this right. Michael if you have time today to meet me on #squeak (irc.freenode.net) send me some email to tell me when to meet you. For that matter it doesn't have to be today. If it's just too awkward for you to access IRC let me know and we'll try to sort this out in an email exchange.
Cees: Does that mean lw-1.theinternetone.net (the server for which update.squeakfoundation.org is an alias) is no more?
Everyone else: Since it looks like I'm going to be making some changes anyway, maybe it's a good time to seperate the responsibility for the update files on the server from the website team's account. Who other than Michael, Stef, and Marcus would need immediate access to the new account if I were to do that?

Hi, Cees,
while I tried to finally get 3.8.1 official I ran into the problem, that the old update servers update.squeakfoundation.org/external www.gsug.org/Squeak2.0/
are both not functional anymore.
Would it be possible to redirect the squeakfoundation address to ftp://ftp.squeak.org/updates
?
Thanks

It stopped working some month ago.

The updates are now just on http://ftp.squeak.org/updates, accessible for everyone with access to the ftp files.
For 3.9, we just made a changeset that switched the update server... of course this could not be distributed via the update server itself, which may be unfortunate, but it was the only way to do it easily.

OK, Michael met me on IRC and we sorted this out.
The updates can still be accessed in the old way via http://ftp.squeak.org/ . However the website account no longer has access to the files even though they have not moved. I've setup a new account 'updates' specifically for accessing and updating the updates.
So if you need to update the updates:
ssh -l updates updates.squeakfoundation.org
or
scp updates.list updates@updates.squeakfoundation.org:~
and update files like
scp 8234-Teleportation-Dialup.1383.cs updates@updates.squeakfoundation.org:~/updates/
I think you get the idea.
Michael, Stef, and Marcus have access to the updates account via ssh.

Michael pointed out a couple of corrections:
1. The server should be update.squeakfoundation.org NOT updates.squeakfoundation.org . I've fixed this although both will actually work.
2. The updates.list file should be in the updates/ directory and not outside of it. That copy appears to be an old one and so I've deleted it and the links to it. So ignore that part of the instructions.
