Hi, I’m presuming this is David or Vanessa,
Boris just tried to commit a branch of VMMaker to source.squeak.org/VMMaker and was denied permission. When I went to the project page I didn’t see bugs (his initials) listed amongst the memory of VMMaker but I did find a bgs member in the list. So I added bugs to VMMaker. Boris then tried to upload the commit from his package cache and was again denied permission. Further, all of Boris’ account details other than the initials are absent.
I urgently need this fixed so that Boris can commit. Can we simply delete the bugs user and I’ll him again with a full profile? Very frustrated. What happened? He successfully committed last week and then suddenly he has been removed from the project and his password no longer works for “bgs”.
Eliot, confusedly.
Adding Chris Muller to the address. Chris has admin access on source.squeak.org, and Vanessa may have that access also (I am not sure). I am not an admin on source.squeak.org, so I cannot directly assist.
My recommendation: Given that the account for author initials 'bugs' is not on the source.squeak.org (for whatever reason), I suggest that Boris create a new account on source.squeak.org with his preferred author initials and with a new password. Then we can add that account to the VMMaker project.

Seeing that, something is strange:
hope this helps

I was not clear in my response. I have root access on the server that hosts source.squeak.org (it runs on our andreas.box.squeak.org server hosted on Rackspace). As such, I am ready to serve as a backup to Chris if any emergency situation arises.
I am not however an "admin" in the actual source.squeak.org application, which means that my own 'dtl' account in that application does not have the admin bit set.
I think that one of the existing admins could flip the bit to make me an admin in the source.squeak.org application, but at the moment I am not able to reset someone's password on source.squeak.org.
I can see that there is a 'bgs' account on source.squeak.org, but I cannot edit that account to reset the password.
If I understand correctly, the problem we are trying to solve is that Boris needs to be able to commit to this repository as specified in his Monticello Browser in Squeak:
MCHttpRepository location: 'http://source.squeak.org/VMMaker' user: 'bgs' password: 'bgspassword'
Here the user 'bgs' is the account that currently exists on source.squeak.org, and 'bgspassword' would be Boris' password on that account.
I can see the the 'bgs' account exists, and as long as it has a password that Boris can specify, then commits to that repository should work.
My guess is that the password may need to be reset, but that is just a guess.

Oh, yes, makes sense. I'm sorry. :)

Unfortunately there is no UI for adding or even listing admins. Maybe that’s something Citrus could add?

I have to admit that many years ago when I needed to be added as an admin on squeaksource.com, I just connected to the image and poked around in the repository until I found the spot where I could set superuser := true. That user interface was sufficient at the time, but I don't think anyone would hold it up as an example of good UI design ... or of good security ;-)

Oops. I just noticed that auto-correct turned "Chris" into "Citrus". Sorry about that! 🍋

LOL.. Not bad, I've been called worse. :) Anyway.. yeah, /ss hasn't been touched in years, it could benefit from another iteration. It'd be nice to fix whatever's wrong with registration and pw update, since we have similar issues with SqueakMap. I'm still planning the new API for SqueakMap later this year, but no idea how to do email anymore since SMTP faded..

My recommendation: Given that the account for author initials 'bugs’ is
bugs is an autocomplete bug. It should be “bgs"
not on the source.squeak.org (for whatever reason), I suggest that Boris create a new account on source.squeak.org with his preferred author initials and with a new password. Then we can add that account to the VMMaker project.
