I rounded up some details about a server we would like to use at Gandi. If we could get a 2 shares, 1 CPU, 1GB RAM, 20 Mbps guaranteed bandwidth and 60 GB disk space that would be great. The name would be box3.squeak.org.
One thing missing from your request I need: what distribution do you want me to spin up on it as the initial default? Presumably you can change it after the fact, but that's probably annoying.
The choices are various 32bit and 64bit versions of CentOS, Debian, Mandrivia, and Ubuntu. I couldn't easily extract the full list from the web interface b/c it was embedded in a bunch of Javascript.
Yea, that's an obvious question and I forgot. 32bit Debian, please.
Also, would you rather the server be in Baltimore, MD, USA facility or the Paris, France one?
I've attached two ssh keys (mine and Ken Causey). If there's anything I've left out that is required, please let me know. Thanks very much.
I think I can only add one ssh key to start. Whose should I first? (You'll then have root and able to add the second).
Ken Causey.
Meanwhile, I've had more correspondence with Gandi about the delegation of web interface thing. Apparently, this is actually common with multiple VPS hosters (I've talked to multiple ones about this now, including Gandi), but delegating a specific VPS associated with one account isn't possible at Gandi, nor is it on any other hoster I can find.
So, our options would be to have 38 (and growing!) accounts, one for each Conservancy project, and somehow transfer money between them (which I don't think is even possible), or this problem: which is that individual projects can't reboot, change the kernels, etc. I wrote to the VP at Gandi who coordinated this initial donation and am talking with other folks I know at various VPS providers to see what else I can learn about this problem. I have confirmed that OpenStack doesn't support this feature, nor is it on its roadmap, which means it's unlikely that any OpenStack-based provider would have this feature.
Interesting. Thanks for outlining that part of it.
And thanks for the quick response!
