Hello all, I'm just working on Contact Us form: http://squeaksite.aidaweb.si/ContactUs/ On form a type of message can be selected and so far I see next possible types: ^#( 'newbie question' 'technical question' 'suggestion, comment' 'for Squeak community' 'for website maintainers' 'for Squeak Leadership') 6 so far, so we cannot add much more. Have you idea what types should be? Which one to add, rename, remove, merge..? Which one should be default? 'suggestion, comment'? Download box, order, adding Linux

Hi, I'm just implementing a download box component for a squeaksite demo and wondering if: - Linux should be added - order changed: Linux, Mac, Windows, Others Now it is Windows, Mac and Others (see top left box on every page). I think adding Linux is a must, because Linux is prime example of Open Source movement, part of it we are too. That's also a reason that Windows as the complete antitesis of OS movement is put down from the first place. Well, there are still many Windows users coming as newcomers, but I think there are more and more Mac users right now, so ... What do you think? Janko

How to get a Swiki account

Hello. I clicked the edit button at the top of http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak to make some minor fixes to the page, but I was asked for a username and password. How do I get an account to be able to make changes to the Squeak Swiki? Thanks, Lewis

Technology choice for the next generation of www.squeak.org and friends

The Squeak Leadership Team concluded in this week's meeting that we should be moving forward on choosing the next technology for the core Squeak websites, such as www.squeak.org. I've been selected to put out a call for any last-minute comments on the two proposals that have been offerred so far, or soliciting any further proposals. I won't repeat the comments already offered. You can review the webteam mailing list history for the past few months at places like http://lists.squeakfoundation.org/pipermail/webteam/, particularly the messages in March, April, and July. Following the end of the comment period, the Leadership Team will evaluate the proposals and comments, and select the path forward, and invite the participants to begin and manage the migration work. Please submit your comments to squeak-dev and/or webteam before 30 July 2008. That will give us a week to absorb the info before our next team meeting. Thank you. Choosing the platform for website

Dear all, I think now a time came to finally choose a platform and to upgrade our website. You know, Jun with exams is over and every Squeaker has now a time. Holidays? What holidays? ;) So, we have two proposals on-line: Aida/Web/Scribo based: http://squeaksite.aidaweb.si/ Seaside/Pier based: http://squeak.lukas-renggli.ch/ One is also mine as you know, so I will from now on always declare in advance if I speak as a webteam leader or a proposer. Now I'm speaking as a team leader. I promise to be as honest as possible. I propose that the end of July is a deadline to a final decision. In the meantime both contenders should: - prepare a replica of current website with all existing features and the same design - prepare a Contact Us solution to prevent spam Any suggestions, any comments? Download box on squeaksite demo

Dear all, Speaking as a proposer: I just finished a download box on squeaksite demo: http://squeaksite.aidaweb.si/. If you login as demo/demo, you'll have edit icons on the bottom of the box. Click on and edit window will popup. The same way you can edit links on the left too. Icon on the center bottom opens rich text editor of main page content. Any comments, suggestions? Suggestion for Squeak Website

Hello, I used ST/V extensively years ago. I'm excited about building ST web apps now. It's either ST or PHP. I'd love to see a step-by-step tutorial for the complete idiot about how to create the Hello World program and then how to turn it into a powerful, DB-driven production- ready website. I've heard about seaside and the free hosting, which I've signed up for but NOW WHAT? I've not even downloaded the Squeak Vm yet but when I do, I think I might be able to create Hello World (maybe) but how do I get that to run on the web? What do I upload? Any help appreciated. Web Team Report - May, Jun 2008

Dear Squeakers, This is a monthly report about Web Team activities for May and Jun 2008. Web Team main responsibility is to maintain our main public face: the http://www.squeak.org website. In May we started three reorganizations and corrections of website: - moving Board page to Community instead Foundation, to be more visible and on the place where anyone expect to be first. We proposed the move to the Board and end goal was that they started with renaming themself. We are now waiting for that phase to finish. - Press Room section and duplication with News team Weekly Squeak blog. This page was initiated by the PR team and is meant to be a place for press releases. Current press releases are quite old already, so we hope that PR team will be more up to date and to somehow separate the form of their releases from News team. - the Teams page was cleaned up so that all information is now up to date There were also some minor corrections of broken links and few answers to questions that came from public e-mail on Contact Us page. In June there weren't much activity except cleaning the spam coming from the public e-mail. What I hope in July is to finally choose technology and finish the upgrade of our website. Matthew has a good point. I suggest we talk about this as input to the organization of the website. My POV: We could organize the site around the needs of individuals rather than around the technology of squeak. It's not about forks, but around the needs of groups of individuals: as Matthew mentions: office (he says presentations), fun, learning, development, etc. It wouldn't matter if the Squeak community goes the way of forks or not. The site would serve each individual's needs better because it addresses what they are searching for - no matter how it's presented to them: be it forks, packages, helpful notes, whatever. The webteam maintains a directory of 'various images' on the FTP site and entries on the Downloads page, please coordinate with them.
