Hello all, I'm just working on Contact Us form: http://squeaksite.aidaweb.si/ContactUs/ On form a type of message can be selected and so far I see next possible types: ^#( 'newbie question' 'technical question' 'suggestion, comment' 'for Squeak community' 'for website maintainers' 'for Squeak Leadership') 6 so far, so we cannot add much more. Have you idea what types should be? Which one to add, rename, remove, merge..? Which one should be default? 'suggestion, comment'? Suggestion for Squeak Website

I noticed that squeak.org was down for several days. I'd be more than happy to donate the small cost of monitoring the site so that if it isnt responding, the parties needed to get it restarted are notified. If you are interested in taking me up on the offer, send whatever email address or cell phone number ( via sms ) you would want alerted.

Achieving redundancy of the website

Hi box team, I subscribed to your mailing list to coordinate common goals and problems more easily. I'm sure that way we'll be able to make a whole Squeak infrastructure better and better. What we need to do first in my opinion is to enhance the availability of the services, for me as from webteam the website is of primary importance. During the recent few days downtime I was thinking a lot about that and decided to propose you a solution, which will reduce such a downtime to few hours most. Solution is a classical one: increase redundancy by making a mirror website, which is in hot backup mode, that is, it can be put online immediately, just by changing the DNS pointer. I'm actually having such backup in place for my servers and it works perfect. It is also not hard to configure, you put a rsync script in place to mirror the changes of website from time to time, say every day or even every hour. We need an additional server for that of course, well, for a while I can offer my one (pingo.eranova.si). Later we can mirror other services too, ok, mailing list could be harder to mirror I suppose. But at least we put instructions what to do on the our website first page in case of such a long downtime. Best regards Janko

List of referals to Squeak website

Hi Michael, Because this feature could be useful for News team to track the impact of your news articles I'd like to remind you of list of referers to our site: http://www.squeak.org/stats.html?view=referers You can also come there through Stats link right in header. This list shows where are visitors coming from, that is, which article, webpage, blog post let the visitor click a link to our site. I'm also thinking about enhancements of that list to show trends and specially to detect the new blog posts which mention Squeak, so that we can react with commenting them ASAP. Squeak website on Google Webmaster tools

Dear webteam, I just added our website to my Google Webmaster tools, found on: http://www.google.com/intl/en/webmasters/ and now I have an access to several statistics Google provides: - Top search queries, - What Googlebot sees, - Crawl stats, - Index stats There is also a Diagnostics section, to see if Google crawler see some errors on our pages. So far it sees no errors :) And Links section, with Pages with external links, that is the external pages which link to our website. Currently 26.424 such pages link to our website! I added our website to lists of my websites I have on my Webmaster tools and then Google wanted to verify me if I really am its admin: with opening a html file on the our web server with Google provided name, like googleb444255923de5fb3.html. If someone else like to add our website to your Webmaster tools, please provide above file name and I'll add it to the server. Probably that way more than one can monitor and see a statics of the website. I'm not sure on that but let we try! Links reorganization

Hi webteam, I'm looking for the links section on the left and I would propose to reorganize it. Reasons: - too much links, therefore each is not visible enough (7 +/- 2 rule) - replicated links, project links for instance are the same as on first page (notable projects) and again on Projects page - Squeak Mailing Lists should go among Community links in menu - SqueakVM link is too specific to be on every page, I would put it on Projects page, or on Teams one. So, my proposal for links would be: - Squeak By Example (what's this? Maybe just Squeak Book?) - Squeak Wiki (not Swiki) - SqueakPeople - SqueakLand (what's this?) ------ - SqueakMap - SqueakSource (what is difference?) - Bug Reporting As you see I also put them in two sections general/more developer one. Those questions above are from typical visitor and newcomer perspective. If we find some good answers and adjust link names accordingly, it would be nice! Janko

We are up and running

Dear webteam, As you can see, we are now up and running and it seems that the server is now stable again. Because it was completely replaced with a new one (except disk) we can expect more reliable running in the future.
