Thanks for the fast response. May I suggest you also add it to the Organization (it is still called Squeak Foundation Board there) and maybe also the Team page? If you gave me a login, I'd fix it myself. ;-)
About updating main website, this is mainly a job of our web team, where anyone is welcome, just join the webteam mailing list and ask there for an account.
Well, somehow I missed/forgot the existence of that mailing list. That was one of the reasons why I started the "Merge mailing lists?" thread.

Hi Bernhard,
You flatered me too soon, now I'm slow as a snail :)
I opened you the account, more in private mail. Please make a brief report here n the list after changes you'll make. That's actually the reason for that list, to separate such posts from more geenral on squeak-dev. But I agree, a lot of mailing lists are to be closed.

Hi Janko,
I just did some minor changes to www.squeak.org mostly to try out editing in Aida/Web. E.g. I changed the wording from the old Squeak Leadership Board to the new Squeak Oversight Board, and I fixed a formatting on the Teams page.
I wanted to do some improvements to the Teams page: 1. The following comment seems out of date: (Craig is advising so many simply because most of them don't have other volunteers from the leadership team yet.) 2. The Squeak Oversight Board is missing from the teams list. 3. Change the wording of leadership team to Squeak Oversight Board. 4. Remove the following comment: This page was originally written by Göran Krampe and later edited by Craig Latta. Please see the revision history for the last edit date. Then I saw the following: If you would like to edit this page, please contact Craig to discuss it first. Then I lost confidence to just do the changes. :-;
So, what do you say? May I?
Cheers, Bernhard

Ken, Igor, how is with this currently?
- The Squeak Oversight Board is missing from the teams list.
I'd add it on the top of the table as link to board's page.
- Change the wording of leadership team to Squeak Oversight Board.
Yep, this is urgent.
- Remove the following comment: This page was originally written by

This is certainly something we need to get a consensus with the Board members. Igor, Ken, what do you think?
I also think this comment can go now out of the teams page. Maybe we could rather add links to the older pages too track how the teams model progresses through the time?

Ken , recently, did a survey among teams and collected some bits of information, which i think can be put on Teams page. I proposed to change this page to be more informative, concerning team's own visions and goals, not just a few words. The reason for giving more information is to attract more developers.
For instance: release 4 Produce Squeak release 4 (cleanly MIT-licensed)
there is no any word, how people could participate, or help or get on board.
or: vm Maintains the Squeak virtual machine. http://www.squeakvm.org/
again, very brief and no any evidence, if there is help is needed, how team organized, does it have any outstanding task(s)/goals which may require some help/contribution etc etc.
Same for SOB - if you put a simple link - this is simplest way to draw visitor's attention to somewhere else. While our intent is on contrary - give visitor an enough material on a single page, so he can see an overall image of community goals & activities, up to the point that he could say to himself: hey, i'd like to join this team - so i will click here and write a mail :)

I also agree that separate pages for the teams would be better. The teams should be responsible for maintaining them. We have the following options: a) We could add them to www.squeak.org. (How can I do this?) b) We could link to team pages on the Swiki.
What is the general policy regarding www.squeak.org versus Swiki? a) Have only the minimum amount of relative stable information on www.squeak.org and link to the Swiki. or rather b) Move more and more information from the Swiki to www.squeak.org c) Have similar information in both places.
Personally I think a) is best, because it means less work for the Webteam and more responsibility for the community. c) should be avoided at all cost in my opinion.
Cheers, Bernhard

I agree more information would be great. However, I was asking for an OK to do much smaller changes. E.g. Craig only advises two teams now, so the comment is out of date.

By the way, when I changed the formatting on the Teams page, the first cell of the table changed automatically from box admins to "> box admins. When I fixed that, the third cell changed from advisor to advisor td>. I finally fixed that to board advisor. However, this makes me fairly anxious to change something. Any ideas what might be the reason for this?
By the way, is there a way to view the diffs between different versions of a page?

I can't reproduce your problem. In any case, if you have such problem next time, you can go to raw HTML programming by adding mode=raw to url, like:
/Community/Teams/?view=edit&version=51&mode=raw
This way you can solve such problems which sometimes occur, specially if someone copy/paste from MS Word directly. What a mess this causes, better don't ask...
By the way, is there a way to view the diffs between different versions of a page?

By teh way, anyone know a good algorithm to doing and showing such diffs? Or a website with a nice example?

Our Swiki does this. It does not look as nice as it could. However, it would be better than nothing.
Confluence does it as well. See here, for example: http://confluence.immuexa.com/pages/diffpages.action?originalId=14404&pa...

I can reproduce similar problems almost every time I use Safari to edit. See the following screenshot:
Do you see the ="40" cols="100" mce_editable="true"> on the top of the page?
I tried in Firefox and I did not see any problems there. So I will use that in the future. A fix would be cool anyway. ;-)

In any case, if you have such problem next time, you can go to raw HTML programming by adding mode=raw to url, like:
/Community/Teams/?view=edit&version=51&mode=raw
Thanks for the tip. I tried it but frankly that's a little bit too raw for my taste? ;-) I guess there is no Swiki markup version available, only MCEditor or HTML, right?

Hi Janko,
I know I am new to this list. Still I would like to suggest moving the discussions over to Squeak-dev. In the first half of 2009 only 26 messages were posted to this mailing list. I don't think that traffic here and on Squeak-dev warrants a separate mailing list today. And I think it would be good to know for the whole Squeak community what goes on on www.squeak.org.

You are new but also very active and willing to do something. Which is very nice and encouraging to us too. Guys like you will move Squeak forward, that's I'm sure.
Of course there are many "legacy" reasons why something is as it is, and needs to be revised and changed, but this needs to be done carefully and with broader consensus.
I also think that we need to reduce mailing lists to just a few, or at least to close those which are completely inactive for years. This is actually happening because the Teams are reviewed to see which are active and which not. I suppose Ken will come out soon with some decision here.
About our mailing list. We have bursts of activity from time to time and 30 people on the list, Ken and Igor from the Board included. I think this list is still needed for the messages concerning the routine website updates while for more important updates the broader discussion on squeak-dev is necessary of course.
Best regards Janko

I expected this answer. ;-) See, one of the problems is to decide which is which. When I wrote my last mail about the policy regarding www.squeak.org versus Swiki I wasted some time to think about whether it was relevant to the whole community. I decided not to cross-post because I feared it might upset some Webteam subscribers. However, now I think it was a mistake because the community is the main client for both and should have a say about it.
In short, cognitive dissonance. I hate it. Stupid for sure, but that's how I work. Sorry for the rant.
Cheers, Bernhard
My position is that this ML should be maintained because it is a bit separate from the squeak-dev list as it pertains only to the presentation of squeak on the web. Also, when a visitor has a suggestion or issue to the website, it finds it's where here.

Hi Janko,
I know I am new to this list.

Done! Thanks for notifying us that!
