Progress on Box2?

Cees, I guess you've been busy with other things but I wonder if you've made any progress towards getting us a new dedicated server? Moving squeak.org to box1 has rather suddenly raised the pressure on it significantly. We can handle it I think but I never thought about the fact that ftp downloads would suddenly explode. Well, it's only 3 or 4 at a time but that is nevertheless resulting in a 6+ load average. But then this server hasn't been acting very well even when nothing much is going on. I suspect we are on an over-booked server or something like that. Ken

Box1 now on Sarge!

Hi all! Ok, I gathered up some courage and then edited /etc/apt/sources.list to say "sarge" instead of "testing". Sarge was released just the other day so it seems like a good thing to stick to Sarge now, and stop tracking testing. Anyway, after staring at "apt-get -s dist-upgrade" (the simulation) I took the plunge. I am hoping everything is still running fine (it seems so), but since it said: 170 upgraded, 6 newly installed, 1 to remove and 0 not upgraded. ...it was a hefty upgrade so keep your eyes open. :) "Log" file has been updated. regards, Göran

This list now open to non-subscribers

I've opened the list to posts from non-subscribers since no one has complained with the policy so far (actually, we haven't heard from Ragnar quite yet) but if anyone decides it is a problem after the fact then it can be easily reversed (I just commented out the line in /home/discuss/lists/box-admins/editor that does the check and added a line for ezmlm-send.) Actually this is a test since I'm sending this from a non-subscribed address. I guess we will see what happens. Ken

Opening the list to non-subscribers

We need a way for people to report issues with the server so that a team member can be notified and can see that something is done about the problem. The obviously solution to me is to open this list to posts by non-subscribers. Does anyone have an objection? Ken
