I can look into this later on, if anyone else has an idea in the
meantime....

Subject: discussion list archive glitch?
Date: Sun, 13 Mar 2005 15:37:06 -0500
Hey Cees.
For some reason the "WebSite" team mailing list archive at
http://discuss.squeakfoundation.org/cgi-bin/ezmlm-cgi?12 seems to point
to the February archive. It makes it look like the list is dead at
first glance, but there's been quite a bit of activity in March if you
dig deeper.
But all of the other discussion lists (with the same URL format, e.g.
http://discuss.squeakfoundation.org/cgi-bin/ezmlm-cgi?13 ) point to the
current March archive.
Anyway, this looks like maybe a glitch in the archive or list itself,
rather than any problem with the main set of links at
http://discuss.squeakfoundation.org .
Hopefully you aren't going to have to update these archive pointers
every month... :-)

Hi!
Ok, I just created a "website" account for the Website team to use for
setting up a SmallWiki for serving the new site. Note also that Bruce
has an account on the box called "sqfiles" and he is responsible for the
file area.
The administration team for box1
(http://anakin.bluefish.se/castaways/12) is led by Ken Causey and that
is why I am CCing this to that list. :)
Alexandre, your key is dropped in, use:
ssh website(a)box1.squeakfoundation.org
regards, Göran
Frank Shearar has requested that the lists specify the list address as
the Reply-To: address of outgoing messages much like it is on
squeak-dev. Just passing along his request.
Ken
I wasn't sure where to send this but at least for now this seems like
the right location for meta-discussion.
1. As has been noted the list WWW archives cannot be created before the
list has received at least one message. A minor issue perhaps but we
might want to encourage new list owners to get things started ASAP with
a starting message.
2. The archives do not include attachments. I think this will be a
problem for many of our lists.
Ken
I'm primarily sending this email to see what everyone thinks about
setting aliases like webmaster(a)map1.squeakfoundation.org to point to
this list. The idea being that one of our primary functions is to
repond to support requests. We then have the choice of trying to
communicate to everyone the right way to contact us or to try to conform
to everyone's existing proclivities. I vote for conforming. However it
should be noted that that is asking for LOTS of spam. Now that doesn't
bother me because my system should handle it OK. However I'm not sure
everyone feels the same.
Secondly what does everyone see as the appropriate goals/function of
this group?
1. Make sure the functionality provided by 'the box' keeps working.
2. Be receptive to requests for hosting other services.
3. Be prepared to emulate public radio personell and periodically beg
for money (might have to be in the US to get this one).
That's just some thoughts of mine (and stolen from Cees). What does
everyone else think?
Ken
P.S. I should probably also send out an email explaining the small
number of policies that Gran and Cees and I have been following in the
past. I'll work on that in a moment.
I've setup a simple page linking to the public lists hosted on the new
list server so far at http://discuss.squeakfoundation.org/ . I think I
have all of these setup now so that the archives will be updated as each
new message is received.
Ken
This is for those of us with root access to box1.squeakfoundation.org:
If you look in root's home directory you will find a couple of files in
amongst the detritus. You should note ~/Log and ~/Readme.
~/Readme is meant to include information that might be needed by someone
needing to adjust a service they did not orignally setup. For example
there is some information in there about the setup of the BFAV server.
Most important is the ~/Log file. Whenever you do anything that could
affect other people you should add an entry to this file. This includes
installing and removing packages, adding accounts, etc. Its hard to say
where to draw the line on this but hopefully we can all figure it out.
If you take a look at this file you can get an idea of how we've used
that in the past and the preferred format.
You will also find another file I created recently at ~/Information.
Probably this should be in ~/Readme but I wanted somewhere to record the
hostname and IP address of the old server because I never could seem to
remember it.
There should probably be more and I may even be forgetting something. I
guess in general if you are uncertain then ask.
