Hmm... Either there's a double subscription, or the interaction with bellsouth.net and box2 results in box2 thinking that the mail didn't go through.
I suspect that the latter might be the first thing we want to research, because with a double subscription the timestamps of the deliveries would be closer to each other. I've CC'ed the box admins, because I am a bit busy at the moment, maybe one of them can go through the mail logs before I get a chance.

No, I haven't. Do you have the full copies of the duplicates? Often, examining the Message-Id and Received headers quickly show what is wrong.
Approximately 100 more duplicates this evening. I do have full copies but examining them reveals nothing to me. :( As an example, I dumped 4 copies of the headers Craig's Spoon update message into 4 files. The Message-Id lines are all the same. What difference exists lies in a couple of Received lines, e.g.,

Steve,
I've been looking into this and I can find at least some evidence of you having been sent a few duplicates of this message because the Bellsouth mail server was receiving the message and then for some reason prematurely disconnecting and our mail server couldn't be sure delivery had occurred and so kept trying. For example:
Jan 31 07:53:30 localhost qmail: 1138690410.295490 starting delivery 2514987: msg 15581839 to remote sgelkins@bellsouth.net Jan 31 07:55:01 localhost qmail: 1138690501.253673 delivery 2514987: deferral: Connected_to_205.152.58.33_but_connection_died._Possible_duplicate! _(#4.4.2)/
However I'm only finding on the order of 20-30 of these with the specific Message-ID that you provided before. Also it seems like it should now have stopped about 9 hours ago (the times here are in UTC):
Feb 1 12:46:50 localhost qmail: 1138794410.078865 starting delivery 2575017: msg 15581839 to remote sgelkins@bellsouth.net Feb 1 12:46:51 localhost qmail: 1138794411.741594 delivery 2575017: success: 205.152.58.33_accepted_message./Remote_host_said:_250_Message_received:_20060201114651.GBIS25935.ibm04aec.bellsouth.net@box2.squeakfoundation.org/
This success should mean that repeated delivery should have stopped.
Is this the only repeated message you have gotten? If you are still getting messages could you check for any different message-ids? I'll be around on #squeak on irc.freenode.net for a while this afternoon (although I will be somewhat erratic after about 4PM US central time and completely gone by 5:45 or so).
Ken
Hi Ken,
Thanks for investigating this. My answers to your questions are near the end.

Yes, the last (I hope!) copy of Craig's Spoon update arrived about 9 hours before you sent your message.
Is this the only repeated message you have gotten? If you are still getting messages could you check for any different message-ids? I'll be around on #squeak on irc.freenode.net for a while this afternoon (although I will be somewhat erratic after about 4PM US central time and completely gone by 5:45 or so).
I got 20 copies of an approval request for a message from e_andrewsvi@midcoast.com, all with the same message-id; 18 copies for a message from binabdulrahman@netscape.net; similar numbers for several other messages, same message-ids. Had it only been Craig's message repeating, I wouldn't have yelled for help. I was starting to worry about doing a good job of (dis)approving messages from non- subscribers to squeak-dev.
I'm cautiously optimistic that the problem's over, at least for now. Just a few duplicates this evening, all sent early this morning, no duplicates for over 13 hours. A good sign.
If it happens again, I guess I'll ask Cees to switch my admin forwarding address to my Gmail account.
Thanks again for your help, Steve
