Ken, this issue with UUID is almost half-year old (if not older), and was reported multiple times by multiple people who running squeak on linux. I thought this were fixed already.. but it seems there are some VMs which don't have such fix. Unix VM closure enabled?

Folks - I'll show my complete ignorance here but can someone explain to me what the status of closure support in the Unix VMs is? Windows and Macs have binaries that people can just download; I don't think the Unix VM is usually shipped as binary, no? In any case, what is the process that users have to go through to get a closure-enabled VM on their preferred Unix flavor? Thanks, - Andreas

faster snapshot support in VM?

In recent pharo thread [Pharo-project] Save and quit vs. Save - a clue to performance??? it is said that saveAndQuit is amazingly fast, while save is damned slow... ... because it goes through all image startup. Cloning the vm/image could be more efficient: primFork "return true if we are in the forked image, false in the original" <primitive: XXX> self error: 'fork failed' snapshot self primFork ifTrue: [ self aboutToSnapshot. self primSaveAndQuit. self returnFromSnapshot]. Apart being dependent on another feature of the OS, do you know any reason why this would not work? PS: sorry if double posting, I clicked on wrong vm-dev address first time

Generating with VMMaker-dtl.125 ....

Generating source with VMMaker-dtl.125 produces the appended stack trace. The VMMaker is missing directories. Does every plugin need a directory in .../Cross? Win32 VM update

Folks - I've prepared a quick Windows VM update for the upcoming Squeakland release. It fixes the known stack imbalance issues that caused crashes of the plugin during project loading. I've retested with FF3, IE7, and Chrome and they all work fine with the new VM. Due to the potential severity of the problems I *strongly* recommend people upgrade if they are currently using a 3.11.x (i.e., closure) VM. The 3.10.x series of VMs is not affected by this problem. (But after substituting them in the .ini files it still crashes, so the expanding them may not be a problem.) If I put self halt in #enterRestrictedMode and step execute it, it goes through fine. It seems to suggest that some stack unbalance in a primitive (disableFileAccess or disableImageWrite) may be the issue.
