I get regular reports lately about the fact that traffic is higher than some pre-set limit. 4.3G in 18 hours isn't yet worrisome (we've got 10G per day, roughly), but I think it is more than I would expect.
So no hurry, but if someone happens to stroll around on box2 with a bit of spare time at hand, it might be an idea to sniff around what is causing the level of traffic we're experiencing - better safe then sorry before we have to pay for extra traffic (not too expensive, but still - if we can avoid it...)
Regards,
Cees

Do you have any idea of what we have had in the past? Do we have any sort of historical charts?
A quick glance through the apache2 and ftp logs doesn't show anything obvious (although as I said I just glanced and didn't do any real analysis). One thing we added recently was VNC for debugging VM networking problems. The website team has been running it now on an image for a couple of weeks. I don't know that's the problem, I can't really even tell if anyone is actively connected to it or not. But if there has been a relatively sudden change then maybe that's the source of the problem.

I'm not sure, but I think they offer some traffic graphs. I'll take a look when I find some time...
Hi Cees,
I did upload an iso image for the 3.8 CD yesterday... that could be the cause. I imagine that if we would announce it, we would see a couple of downloads. So maybe we should delete it and look into bittorrent for these kind of things.

I don't think the ISO has anything to do with it. I can't find any downloads of this in the HTTP or FTP logs, at least in the last day or so.

But in any case, I think just putting up a .torrent would be a sensible thing to do...

So I delete the iso file? torrent are location independed, so we can just move a copy of the torrent file in place of the iso.

And I'm seeding the thing already. Who is responsible for the tracker?

I'm running both a tracker and seed under my account on box2.

I copied the file from the FTP section to my directory anyway for use by the 'seed'. So the torrent does not even rely on your originally uploaded copy, so you can certainly delete it if you wish.
