RePlugin config.h confusion

Hi Guys - Making progress with the new build setup only to run into other issues ;-) This time it's RePlugin: It seems I'm having trouble with RePlugin's config.h (Cross/plugins/RePlugin/config.h) conflicting with the interpreter's config.h (win32/vm/config.h). The generated RePlugin.c includes: - sqVirtualMachine.h which includes - sqMemoryAccess.h which includes - config.h (from vm/config.h) but RePlugin.c also includes - internal.h which includes - config.h (from RePlugin/config.h) Since my current search path setup prefers RePlugin/config.h over vm/config.h sqMemoryAccess complains loudly over the absence of various definitions. On the other, changing the search paths to prefer vm/config.h compiles - but ignoring the settings in RePlugin/config.h surely isn't the right thing to do, is it? Any proposals on how to fix this? Conditionals are not rules, so automatic variables are meaningless to (and are not defined within) them. If you have to use automatic variables to construct the path to an optional file then I think I would suggest Dave's approach that puts the test into a shell command run from within the rule proper, where the $* makes sense and wil be correctly substituted. (If you have a finite set of possible locations that you can enumerate, you might be able to make things easier by writing a script to do the job: 'copy_if_source_present_and_dest_missing sourceFile destFile' or somethine along those lines and then just run it for every possible candidate.) Everywhere I said 'rules' I really meant 'rules and associated commands', otherwise the allusion to Dave's solution makes little sense. (BTW: my explanation holds for static patterns too, which I suspect might be what you're actually using, where '$*' is bound to the text make has inferred for '%' in the target pattern.) Tchao, Ian

Make question

Hi Folks - I'm trying to rework the windows build structure and I'm running into a problem with make. Basically, what I'm trying to do is to test whether a file exists in a given location and if so, copy it, and if not, copy a default from elsewhere. This should look like here: foo.here: if $(file-exists locationA/foo.locA) cp locationA/foo.locA foo.here else cp locationB/foo.locB foo.here endif I think you get the idea. My problem is that I can't seem to find a reliable way of expressing the line if $(file-exists locationA/foo.locA) in any reasonable way (i.e., by using make's functions). Any ideas how to convince make to determine whether the file exists or not? Thanks, - Andreas

VM build problem: sqInt?

I'm attempting to build a VM for a 64-bit Intel mac, using image version #7051 and VM version 3.8.12.beta5U, and revision 1520 of the C sources. I follow the usual steps regarding VMMaker, Balloon 3D, special change sets, and gnuification. If I check "64 bit VM" in VMMaker, generate sources, gnuify, and compile I get these compilation errors: conflicting types for ioExit: int ioExit(void) { previous declaration of ioExit was here: sqInt ioExit(void); and ditto for: ioDisablePowerManager, ioBeep, ioFormPrint, attributeSize, etc and also a few in sqMacTime: ioMicroMSecs, ioSeconds, ... If I uncheck "64 bit VM", clean out sources, regenerate, etc, then I get these undefined's from ld: _ioFilenamefromStringofLengthresolveAliases _vmEndianness Has anyone else had a similar experience? I'd prefer to build the 64- bit version if possible. Thanks a million for any suggestions. Jay

QNX port directory on http://ftp.squeak.org/

Yakov Zaytsev who is working on a port of the VM to QNX requested a location for hosting the content. In the interest of minimizing the need for middlemen I went ahead and setup an account 'qnxport' on the box2 server, put Yakov's ssh key in as an authorized key for that account, and created a qnx/ subdirectory under the ftp site root directory owned by this account. At some point one or more release teams may want to work with Yakov to verify that the VM is working at which point it might be worth setting it up a copy under the release directory as has been done in the past.
