Hi, Karl and Pierre-André, Thank you both for this work! We now have three different bodies of code afoot that address sound issues -- the recent code from the two of you, and also some not-yet- published code of our own concerning sound-library management. Within the next two weeks, we'll scrutinize all this code, integrate as appropriate, and put the result out as an etoys2.2 update. Meanwhile, further tweaks and further discussions remain most welcome. Thanks again to all! [Etoys] translation issue in addTranslatedList:

Hi Scott, There are a couple of ways to solve addTranslatedList: issue for translation. http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/3447 1: Call #translated explicitly. This is most simple and easy to maintain. If memory consumption is not so different, this is preferable. aMenu addList: { {'play sound' translated. playSound} {'add to sound library' translated. addToSoundLibrary}} 2: Call #translatedNoop. If you need untranslated keyword. This is an option. But I don't think it is needed in this case. aMenu addTranslatedList: { {'play sound' translatedNoop. playSound} {'add to sound library' translatedNoop. addToSoundLibrary}} 3: If you really care about memory, You can even add #translatedNoop in the array literal. You need to modify addTranslatedList: in this case, and there is a limitation which only one literal can be detected in a array. See #balloonTextForFlapsMenu and #arraySearch:fromArray:addTo: aMenu addTranslatedList: #( ('play sound' translatedNoop playSound) ('add to sound library' translatedNoop addToSoundLibrary)) 4: Add special case to detect literals. You don't need to change any method dealing with addTranslatedList:. I don't like to add more special case though, it's ok if this is the simplest way. [Etoys] Make object halo icons appear on mouse over, after some time delay.

Have you thought of making objects halo icons appear on mouse-hover, after some delay? This would take away the need to use right-click so much (for moving objects around it's very awkward to right-click and drag), and also make them self-discoverable for kids. Eduardo

[Etoys] work around layout checking of msgfmt

Hi. When compiling lastest POs in SVN with msgfmt tool, I found some POs generates two kinds of errors : - `msgid` and `msgstr` entries do not both end with `\n`. - `msgid` and `msgstr` entries do not both start with `\n`. After reviewing source of the tool, I found that msgfmt tool does some layout checking and warns error when: - msgid starts(ends) with newline, but msgstr starts(ends) without newline - msgid starts(ends) without newline, but msgstr starts(ends) with newline. A quick fix for the exporter is attached. I think also some qualificaton procedure on build time might be needed if LaunchPad doesn't have validation for this. PO and line numbers with problem are attached below. [Etoys] Unit Test

Hello, I have been looking for how we can use unit tests in our development process. We have not been able to use SUnit infrastructure because distribution etoys image doesn't have test classes. So it causes a problem when you upload an etoys.image from the update stream. So far, I have struggled with this issue in current etoys working process. And finally I gave up (again). But for me, programming without unit testing is too hard to keep the quality. So let me show you some options. 1: Give up the update stream for etoys.image: I wonder how many people use the update stream for etoys.image. Because current OLPC etoys distribution includes a lot of externals file like example projects. I don't think updating etoys.image is much make sense. And the interface for updating image is in hidden menu. 2: Include TestCases into etoys.image: I measured the impact of including test cases today. The difference is 384K. 17,871K with tests, 17,487K without tests in both #1664 with Launcher project. Even we can strip some unused test classes. 3: Do nothing: If no one except me use unit tests. I can keep my test cases in my hard disk. That's O.K. My preference is this order. What do you think? Cheers, - Takashi

... do we officially have to finalize the version of Etoys that will be used on the first mass-produced machines (see Kim Q's message below). The most critical issue we still have is translations. We need to get Pango support in ASAP - is this week realistic? And, support adding translations without rebuilding the image. Can someone have a look at tell me what I should improve? What is the process to get a project included in the project list? Are there guidelines about what I should pay attention to? [Etoys] [BUG]KeyboardMorphForInput

Playing with the ScorePlayerMorph I found a bug. Open a ScorePlayer, the click on the PianoRoll button and then click on the PianoRollScore and select 'addKeyboard' from the popup menu. The keyboard that pops up can't be dissmissed by the dismiss handle. Karl
