[Etoys] Screen damage issues when dropping tiles in ScriptEditor

When I turn on preference showDebugDamage there are some issues when dropping tiles in the ScriptEditor. A rectangle in the top left corner flashes, and a large part of the screen is redrawn when the tile is dropped, from top left of screen to bottom right of ScriptEditor. I guess this will slow the tile scripting responsiveness. Also the Viewer flap tabs are redrawn quite often, not flap tabs for SketchMorphs, but for other morphs. Karl

[Etoys] Next Steps for B-Test2 and more

Hello, Now seems to be a good time (even though the B-Test1 schedule seems to be pushing back) to think about the next major items to be addressed for B-Test2 (and later) milestones. Here is rough summary: * Upto one VM instance per machine. Right now, you can create more than one VMs just by clicking the shooting star icon. It has some implication in the tactics of "background activity", which Bert asked but I think we didn't get definitive answer. * Address the tickets on the dev.laptop.org. Some short-term items are listed on the trac system. Takashi says he is looking at the gettext. (I'll list some items from Jerome Peace.) * Look and feel adjustment. OLPC's look is changing. We need to find a good timing to do it so that we don't end up with doing the same thing not too many times. This includes, perhaps, move some menu items to OLPC's chrome, change the way that halos work, etc. * Authoring tool for mentoring. Upon EventPlaybackSpace (or something), a tool that a designer and developers can use should be built. * Contents. Working with designers to make different tutorial contents built upon the above item. * Voice over machinary. Hooking a better sound codec than GSMCodec with Squeak. Ogg Vorbis comes to my mind, but we need to check again with OLPC folks. * Video. Diego says he updated the V4L2 binding. We will test it and make sure it works with the camera. * Script shaping. A reasonable way is to write a text renderer that uses Pango primitives. There can be more... Some might think that there are items we can do for B-Test1, but I think we are now safe to start concentrating on the B-Test2. Any suggestions and feedback is welcome. -- Yoshiki

Players that have balloon help sometimes get a halo instead of a help balloon. If I turn on mouseOverHalo and turn off mouseOverHalo the symptom goes away for a while. Karl

[Etoys] [BUG] Event playback

There are some problems with the latest welcome project. Clicking one of the buttons, which moves to another project, does not reliably stop the event playback. I got a walkback because activeHand is nil - debug log attached. A second issue is that playback should also stop when clicking the "project chooser". It continues right now, interfering with the new dialog. - Bert -

I'll also add a "knownServers" file pointing to that directory. So if you press "FIND", you will see two entries, "ExampleEtoys" and "My Etoys". It would be good to also send thumbnail gifs next time, for now I created those myself. Bugs: * MiddleOfRoad - last color must be green * TurtleTrails - reset moves turtle relative to lower left, but scripts are relative to upper left, so on the actual screen size the turtle is behind a script after reset. Workaround: author at 1200x900. Same for SpeedAcceleration * Random Racing - had to rename to "RandomRacing" because Makefile did not like the space, same for BallDropAnalysis I fixed those bugs in the uploaded version. - Bert -

Hi Folks -- Here are a few more projects and thumbnails. I found a few oddities in doing these: - Thumbnailing in a Playfield seems to make a new object and rename it, and it doesn't get expanded (sometimes) when you pull it back out. This happened with the costumes bin in the Computer Logic Game. - Also in the Computer Logic Game, I found that the use of "graphic" had the drawback of not respecting the center point (as does "look like"). You can see this with the creeping of the loudspeaker when being activated. - OTOH, "look like" seems to object to being copied while a script is running. None of these are worth rushing to fix, except perhaps for the strange thumbnailing behavior. (Also there is the old bad disappearence requiring "round up strays" when you drop something into a playfield that has thumbnailing on). - I notice that the "next project" option is not in the Nav bar anymore, but the "pref" still is. Seems like we should just have the same conventions that the browsers have here. - What is the plan for getting to projects in an image? Cheers, Alan

Hi, I uploaded etoys.image (#1104), Welcome.023.pr and DemonCastle1.009.pr to git repository http://dev.laptop.org/git.do?p=projects/etoys and; http://tinlizzie.org/olpc/OLPCPlugin-1104.zip (including .pr files) http://tinlizzie.org/olpc/tutorial/DemonCastle1.009.pr DemonCastle1.009.pr is enabled the book reverting framework by Scott and Ted. I realized this is very useful both readers and authors. Actually reverting is so cute! Unfortunately, reverting mechanism didn't work the Welcome project well. I guess that's why it had a reference from the World to a page inside the book. # My log message in git shows strange time stamp, I'm sorry, maybe # that's because my VMWare was set stupid time.
