Hi Alan,
I'm uploading these projects:
<TurtleGeometry.001.pr> <SpeedAcceleration.001.pr> <MiddleOfRoad.001.pr>
<Random Racing.002.pr> <ParticlesEpidemic.001.pr> <ParticlesGasModel.001.pr> <FollowRoad.001.pr> <JustPaintedCar.001.pr> <SteeringTheCar.002.pr> <CarAndPen.001.pr> <StartOfDTPDocument.001.pr> <BouncingBallAnimation.001.pr> <Make A Movie.001.pr> <BetterMovieUI.001.pr> <Ball Drop Analysis.001.pr>
They are installed under "/usr/share/etoys/ExampleEtoys". I'll also add a "knownServers" file pointing to that directory. So if you press "FIND", you will see two entries, "ExampleEtoys" and "My Etoys".
It would be good to also send thumbnail gifs next time, for now I created those myself.
Bugs: * MiddleOfRoad - last color must be green * TurtleTrails - reset moves turtle relative to lower left, but scripts are relative to upper left, so on the actual screen size the turtle is behind a script after reset. Workaround: author at 1200x900. Same for SpeedAcceleration * Random Racing - had to rename to "RandomRacing" because Makefile did not like the space, same for BallDropAnalysis
I fixed those bugs in the uploaded version.
- Bert -
Thanks very much!
Cheers,
Alan

Bert,
As a curiosity, is there a process to get and install the latest image and projects on "regular" (non OLPC) linux; I know there is http://tinlizzie.org/olpc/sugar/rpm/ but I assume there is a CVS or SVN (or "git"?) repository somewhere where you are uploading this stuff. Is it available to get the latest?
Thanks Milan

Hi Milan,
The "Welcome" and "Learn" buttons are connected to project files on same directory of the image. So if you place Welcome.pr and DemonCastle1.pr on the directory, those buttons should be work well. Also, example etoys can be shown by "All" button if you make a config file like --- name: Example Etoys type: file directory: /usr/share/etoys/ExampleEtoys (your example Directory) --- named (your dir)/prefs/knownServers/examples.dir
If you want to make real environment as OLPC, http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Sugar_with_sugar-jhbuild might be good place to know. But it takes too long time to build...

Hi Bert --
In trying this, I found a few questions, perhaps glitches.
- I thought we weren't going to generate the key first thing. This takes a very long time on the board. Weren't we going to just supply a key?
- In Takashi's tutorial, RIGHT CLICK did not bring up the halos.
- We don't tell the player of Demon Castle how to get back (use the nav bar). This should be the last advice on the last page of the bookmorph.
- Seems as though Demon Castle should be full screen (this is a menu option in every bookmorph).
- On the button project, New should probably make a new project and go there, rather than just putting a blank project window up.
- I started this image up by double clicking on it, and this gave me no path to the sample Etoys folder when inside the image. But I wonder if this is an artifact since the file picker seems to show that the image is being executed in a different folder (probably the one with the VM in it). What should I see here/what should I do?
Cheers,
Alan

You need to create an "examples.dir" file as Takashi described in the other mail. This is in the Sugar package but needs be modified depending on where the image was installed. Easiest would be to start your etoys.image and execute this:
((ExternalSettings preferenceDirectory directoryNamed: ServerDirectory serverConfDirectoryName) newFileNamed: 'examples.dir') nextPutAll: 'name:Example Etoys\type:file\directory:' withCRs, Smalltalk imagePath, FileDirectory slash, 'ExampleEtoys'; close
It's ok to overwrite if this existed before. Then restart the image. You should see the "ExampleEtoys" directory in the FIND dialog.

Hi Alan, Bert.

Yes, although there is the "to quit this tutorial ..." hint.
I fixed it. http://tinlizzie.org/olpc/tutorial/DemonCastle1.010.pr and git.

I will see it later.

Aha, good point. I fixed it. 1108EnterNew-tak.cs (It needs rebuilding first screen)

We discussed this on the last conf call, and decided it might be too dangerous. It will happen the very first time only, and demonstrate our commitment to secure operation.
But to whom? The rest of the BTest SW doesn't do this, and we should be able to figure out a way around this for the next build. I think it is a real showstopper as far as end-users are concerned. We should at least reconsider what is being gained and lost here.

I was on my PC, so perhaps that's it.

But, still, let's not strand them if we haven't shown them how to navigate. Perhaps a last door will take us back?

((ExternalSettings preferenceDirectory directoryNamed: ServerDirectory serverConfDirectoryName) newFileNamed: 'examples.dir') nextPutAll: 'name:Example Etoys\type:file\directory:' withCRs, Smalltalk imagePath, FileDirectory slash, 'ExampleEtoys'; close
Heh heh ... I'm glad this is already done in the Sugar package.
It's ok to overwrite if this existed before. Then restart the image. You should see the "ExampleEtoys" directory in the FIND dialog.
Thanks very much!
Cheers,
Alan

Hmm, doesn't work correctly for me - partialReset keeps ticking. I think you forgot to decrement count in #partialReset, and the button should call reset. I fixed the project.

Thanks Bert!
I did it too quickly and too tiredly.

Takashi,
Thanks a lot, this is the kind of shortcut I was looking for :) - 2 notes inside

Hi Milan,
The "Welcome" and "Learn" buttons are connected to project files on same directory of the image. So if you place Welcome.pr and DemonCastle1.pr on the directory, those buttons should be work well.
This worked thanks!
Also, example etoys can be shown by "All" button if you make a config file like
name: Example Etoys type: file directory: /usr/share/etoys/ExampleEtoys (your example Directory)
named (your dir)/prefs/knownServers/examples.dir
This did not work for me. I did: - In the same directory as etoys.image (/home/mzimmermann/dev/smalltalk/squeak/OLPC), I put the ExampleEtoys directory and contents. - In the same directory as etoys.image, I created file prefs/knownServers/examples.dir looking as this: ============== name: Example Etoys type: file directory: /home/mzimmermann/dev/smalltalk/squeak/OLPC/ExampleEtoys ==============
But when I start Squeak and click on "All" I get a "Load a Project" window which only has "MySqueak" directory and "Squeaklets" under it.
Is it possible that this "prefs" file is loaded by VM, and me having a regular Linux VM the preferences are not read?
Please ignore this if it is not obvious, I do not want to take everyone's time,
Thanks Milan
PS: I wanted to run the command suggested by Bert, but did not find Workspace :(
If you want to make real environment as OLPC, http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Sugar_with_sugar-jhbuild might be good place to know. But it takes too long time to build...

Thanks - I could get stuff using git before, but when I simply unziped etoys.image.gz, copied somewhere and ran, it did have an initial menu, but nothing hapened when i clicked, for example, on "Welcome" button. Then I figured I probably need to run autogen.sh (and then configure/make), but have missing gnome-common for autogen (no gnome libraries on this suse). Thanks for you help, I will take it from here, Milan

Click on desktop, Alt-Shift-W
Thanks Bert, I ran your script, that worked for me, including creating the examples.dir and seeing the examples when I click "All". (I tried quite a bit to understand why it did not work when I just manually created the file .. hmmmmm, not sure .. but this works :) )
Thanks Milan
