... answers 127.0.0.1 on the A-test board. Yes I know that machines don't have an address but interfaces do. Still, can we make this answer the address of the default interface? The one marked default (dest addr = 0.0.0.0) in the routing table? - Bert -

[Etoys] An idea of first screen for OLPC

Hello, I have an idea for the first screen of OLPC etoys. We have discussed that we need something like a project launcher to show etoy examples for first use. To make it easy, I made a small script to show newest 10 projects with thumbnails in "my squeak" folder. I think it is useful both browsing example projects and user made projects. I did not publish it because I am not sure if it is really needed even when now it's "freeze" week. But if you don't have another better idea for first screen. This change set should be useful. What do you think about it? - It searches "my squeak" directory (/home/olpc/.sugar/default/etoys/public), or you can change it in EToysLauncher>>directory. - The newest ten projects are shown. - A thumbnail can be shown if there is "project name.gif" file. - You can enter a project when you click a thumbnail. - The list is updated when you go and back project. [Etoys] remaining tasks in this week

Hello, (this email is basically for the team, but I would like to get some feedback...) I talked with Alan and lined out the tasks on our remaining time frame in this week. * The shooting star SVG icon. If the possible new artwork comes in, we might change, but it is good enough. * Pointing device button usage. Generally it would be good to follow the OLPC convension, but they don't have it, and Alan heard they said "they like our convention". I go for the idea of left-click as left-click, and right-click for halo. And leave mouse over halo option *on* for now. subtasks: - take "-swapbtn" option out from etoys.in. - code and preference in the image is ok. What PowerPoint does is if you left-click on an object, it gets halo-like thing. If OLPC goes that way in the future, we probably go that way as well. * Opening. Alan will run another path probably tomorrow, and Takashi cleans it up. It will have a book that is cycling through pages, but buttons on the right. The buttons take you to other projects, and the book will be cleared from Squeak image. (I have to check the code in #1070 actually work.) The project with the book is in the image, but the projects loaded by these buttons may reside on the disk. - I wait for Scott's check on deleteAllHalos-yo.1.cs and push it (or modified version of it) to the stream to make EventRecorder in a book not raise an error. - Alan make the projects. We may re-link and relocate projects. * Packaging. - (take -swapbtn out) - These project read from disk should go in the folder Smalltalk imagePath. - update .image file. * Testing, testing, testing... I would shoot to do these by Friday, as some of the team will be flying on the weekend. What do you think? -- Yoshiki

[Etoys] Git problem

Hi, we discovered a serious problem with git, the source code versioning system that is used for OLPC work: I have been using it like I used to with subversion, that is, check in an updated etoys.image.gz every day: http://dev.laptop.org/git.do?p=projects/etoys Now Marco, who is on an ISDN connection, tried to check that out, and it downloaded like 30 MB. Turns out checking out from a git repository does download the *whole* history since the dawn of time. Eek. I hear git does use delta-compression for binary files, but I looks like that does not work for an image: 52 .git git add OLPCPlugin.image 5764 .git git commit 5776 .git run image, save, commit 11492 .git run image, save, commit 17208 .git The increase for each image check-in is about the gzipped size of the whole image. So. We might have to put the images somewhere else. Or only store the original image plus changesets in a folder, and have the makefile update the image from those changesets. A similar problem will arise once we store projects in git. Any ideas? - Bert -

I agree that Scamper is not much for anything, but it can be useful at least to keep it working as long as it's in the image. There have been some discussion about getting Scamper or a new browser with more features but nothing has been done yet. Karl

I'm not sure what the fixes to HTTPSocket were supposed to fix. I know they broke some things. About scamper: I noticed Scamper was in the image and that it was not updated to the latest version. The latest version does not have any enhancements, but fixes to stuff already in the browser. [Etoys] Latest Scamper fixes

Here is the latest version of the web browser Scamper with a few fixes. Also the latest version of Network-HTML. And a old version of HTTPSocket class>>httpGetDocument:args:accept:request: that fixes issues with getting to certain domains like for example: 'http://www.linuxfr.org' ( works on Windows XP at least) I'm not sure whats wrong with the current HTTPSocket but reverting to this old version fixes the issue.

[Etoys] Squeak / Etoys RPMs

Hi folks, I built RPMs for the Squeak virtual machine and the Etoys Sugar activity. Since the etoys.laptop.org address is not operational yet, I uploaded them here: http://tinlizzie.org/olpc/sugar/rpm/ I verified they work on the A-test board with build 91. However, in that build there is a rather old version of Sugar (well, old on our time scale) so the Etoys icon does not show up correctly. What can we do to get a more recent version into build 92? What is the procedure that determines what packages at which version go into a build? MarcoPG: the etoys rpm spec file is right in the etoys git repository. Cheers! - Bert -
