Hi folks, I have not reported on progress in a while. But Etoys is working pretty well by now in SqueakJS: http://bertfreudenberg.github.io/SqueakJS/etoys/#fullscreen=true You get the best performance and feature set in Chrome. It works fine in Firefox too, but the latest Safari makes problems (I'm almost sure that's Safari's fault, not mine). In Chrome, copy/paste works, you can drop in files from your desktop, sound output and microphone input works, you can save and load projects, you can switch to fullscreen mode, QuickGuides and translations work, etc. You can also pass a project URL to directly launch a project, e.g.: http://bertfreudenberg.github.io/SqueakJS/etoys/#fullscreen=true&document=h… ... so it can be used just like the old browser plugin. To satisfy the browser's security model, the project server must either host SqueakJS itself, or support CORS (http://enable-cors.org/server.html). Performance isn't great yet, but there are students working on it at the U of Potsdam. Some startup time could be shaved off by not providing translation files. Pixel Qi?

Does anyone here have a connection to Pixel Qi? I have an idea for a project that begs for their display tech (if you didn't know, they made the display for the XO, which is why I'm asking here.) I want to look at their current list of products, but their website appears to be currently 500 error hosed. http://pixelqi.com Anyway if anyone knows anybody at Pixel Qi and could forward this message along, I'd be grateful. I'm just looking for a PDF or three covering what they're making these days. Thanks! --Casey Ransberger

Hi all, Testing etoys with linux mint 17 I noticed that the ubuntu repositories are still containing etoys-4.0-2340 only. Why not etoys-5? Markus

Javier, Thank you for doing this, it will be a big help for many people. I do not have a Mac to test this myself, but I hope that we can have a few volunteers to download the VM and try it, especially on older Mac computers. This VM is updated to the latest VM sources, so I expect that it will be able to run the latest closure enabled Squeak trunk images, as well as Etoys and other older images. [ANN] SqueakJS 0.2 released, now runs Etoys

Hi all, my SqueakJS VM has reached a major milestone. It is now sufficiently complete to run a full Etoys image (and possibly other non-closure images, too). It has support for most BitBlt modes, WarpBlt, even some Balloon2D rendering (for TTF fonts), a virtual file system, image saving etc. Try it: http://bertfreudenberg.github.io/SqueakJS/etoys/ (Safari and IE are significantly faster than Firefox and Chrome, best is Safari Webkit nightly, works on iPad too, hopefully Android) For more details, see my blogpost: http://croquetweak.blogspot.de/2014/07/squeakjs-runs-etoys-now.html Feedback and contributions welcome :) - Bert -
